Exporting a selection as PNG does not include line labels

Steps to reproduce in Lucidchart:

  1. Create a flowchart including two shapes.
  2. Place the two shapes one above the other, such that Align > Center will do nothing but Align > Middle will stack them atop each other.
  3. Create a line connecting these shapes. This line should originate from the bottom of the lower shape, and connect to the top of the upper shape.
  4. Add some text to the line, such as “Sample”.
  5. Ensure that the line does not follow a direct path from one shape to the other, but rather wraps around the shapes.
  6. Select the shapes and the line.
  7. Right click, select “Export Selection” > “PNG
  8. Observe the bug: The text from the line is not entirely included in the export.

Observe below: The text on the line should read “Bug Line Text”, and instead only “e Text” is legible.

Thanks for posting in the Lucid Community! This is the expected behavior of our “Export Selection> PNG” feature. When you select your shapes and line, it does not identify the text as part of the shape to be exported. As you can see in the screenshot below, I have selected everything, but only the content within the blue box will be exported (which results in cutting off the words on the line). 

 

As a workaround, I would recommend adding your content into a container. You can remove the line color from the container as well, so it does not show up in your exported version. 

You can then select the entire container and click on “Export selection> PNG” to achieve your desired result. 

Please let me know if you run into any issues with this or have any additional questions!

​@Thomas Tucker try to export into an SVG and other file types. 

If you are still seeing issues with exports using the solid lines please reach out to our support team directly using this form and one of us will assist as soon as possible!

I tried SVG export and appeared to have a similar issue - I believe the SVG file format has a “document area” that was still exceeded. Whatever the case, the preview of the SVG I received in the web browser cut off the text.

For my need, I added some other element to the selection to force the selection area to expand beyond the text as a workaround to this bug. Thank you for the link to the form. I do not expect to be filling out that form unless there is any more information I can provide to clarify the bug.

Hello ​@Michelle S, thank you for the workaround. it is much more clever than the one I had come up with.

It is disappointing to hear that this is “expected behavior” to the design team as it is far from expected behavior to a user. I hope that the issue is recognized as undesirable behavior and addressed as such.
