Let’s talk Data Linking! You can create powerful, data-driven visualizations by importing data sets from Google Sheets, Excel spreadsheets, and CSV files. 

But what about the updates you make to your data set? No worries! You can use the Refresh or Replace Dataset feature. Both of these options can be found by clickingmanage-data-icon-in-lucidchart.png the Manage Data icon located in the top-right corner of the Data panel in Lucidchart.

  • 🔄 Refresh Dataset (Google Sheets only): By default, your spreadsheet will automatically sync to Lucidchart every 30 seconds. You can also pull updates manually by clicking Refresh Dataset. To adjust your refresh settings, you can select Manage Refresh to choose your desired refresh frequency.
  • ⤴️ Replace Dataset (all data sets): Updates to an Excel spreadsheet or CSV will not automatically be synced to Lucidchart, but you can easily replace your data set with an updated one to keep your diagram up to date by clicking Replace Dataset.

If you’re not on an Enterprise Plan, have no fear! You can import your data to create diagrams. If you make updates to your dataset, you can import the updated dataset and a new diagram will be created to reflect those changes.

To piggy-back on this post, we are actively developing an Excel integration with Lucidchart. This feature will allow you to import spreadsheets from Office 365 business accounts, and have 2-way syncing between Lucid and your Excel spreadsheet. 

 

If anyone interested in trying this out shoot me a DM. I can get you onboarded to our Excel beta.  We’re actively looking for testers that can provide feedback and feature requests for this new capability.

This is not true for us.  Our connection remains, but any updates to our Google sheet are not reflected in Lucid unless we click on the refresh dataset.  


Hi ​@spitfireAZ, thanks for adding to this thread! If your data is not automatically refreshing, I would recommend re-uploading your data using "replace data set," to then see if the automatic refresh occurs as expected. To confirm, the manual refresh does reflect those changes for you, correct?

Hi ​@Melina Tomassi, would you mind clarifying whether you are linking data from Google Sheets or Excel? The process may slightly differ depending on which you are using. 

If you are using Google Sheets, you can select Manage Data > then in the dropdown select Manage Refresh

If you are using Excel, you will use the Manage sync settings instead. To do so, you can follow the steps below: 

  1. Click data-panel-icon-in-lucidchart.png the Data icon from the Primary Toolbar to the far left-hand side.
  2. Select the dataset you want to update sync settings for from the dropdown menu at the top-left of the Data panel.
  3. Click Two-way syncPull changes, or Manual sync at the top-left of your dataset in the Data panel.
    • This button will be different depending on what sync setting is currently selected for your data.

  4. At the bottom of the panel that appears, click Manage sync settings.
  5. Select a sync option:
    • Two-way sync: Lucid and Excel are automatically synced to each other. Changes in one update the data in the other.
    • Pull changes: Lucid updates automatically with changes made in Excel, but changes in Lucid don’t affect your original Excel workbook.
    • Manual sync: Lucid only updates when you manually refresh the data. Changes in Lucid don’t affect your dataset in Excel even when the data is refreshed.
  6. Click Save.
