I have a specific usecase whereby we have a corporate license for Lucidchart, but we need our Operation to interact with Lucidcharts.
We have built the chart, it uses a simple drag and drop interface and we’re using a container to allow for some filtering. Its for managing vehicles and what depot they are in.
Its super simple and the Operation can use it with that limited functionality. Is there a way to publish this as an app? akin to Appsheet that anyone can use? or do they have to have a Lucidchart license and full access to LucidChart in which case it becomes non-viable as they’ll get overwhelmed by options!

I ended up speaking to Niclas, who helped us arrive at a solution.
We are using Lucid Spark to deliver the ‘app’ (not really an app) to the operation team.
So we created the chart in Lucid Chart with all the filters on it, then used Lucid Spark to deliver it and the Ops team are using it daily now to move around their vehicles.
There’s probably some mileage in PR for Lucid there as its a unique way of utilising the functionality of Lucid in an operational environment.

It sounds like you might be looking for how to build and publish an app. Apps published on the integrations marketplace are available for anyone to install, even if they don’t have a Lucidchart license. See Unlocking developer tools for information on how to build an app on the developer portal and Publishing for information on how to publish your app. Keep in mind that users without licenses are limited in the amount of content on a chart, so if your app would cause them to exceed that limit, they’ll need to purchase a license.
I’m still a little confused about the intention for your app. Are you trying to give many people access to a single chart or access to the operation for interacting with the chart?

Apologies on the delayed response! I want to make sure I understand the question. Are you basically saying:
- Our operations team needs to interact with a simple Lucidchart that helps manage vehicles and depots
- They just need to edit with these particular diagrams, and probably don’t need full Lucidchart licenses
- Is there a way to use Lucid’s APIs to allow your operations team to edit these Lucidchart diagrams without needing a license?
If so, then our APIs do not provide a good solution here. We do not have any REST API endpoints that allow an integration to edit an existing Lucidchart document. You could try something hacky using our Extension API. However, our Extension API is not designed for this type of use case, so your app would be challenging to code and brittle (e.g. may have a lot of maintenance problems). It would probably be more money in developer time to build and maintain the app than to just assign licenses to the operations team.
As a Lucid employee, it might seem like the obvious suggestion is to consider expanding your engagement with us, and while that could ultimately lead to a solution, I want to be upfront that our API doesn't currently provide a robust method for achieving this directly.
