How to lock completed diagrams

Related products:Lucidchart

Hello,

As the title suggests, is there a way to lock completed diagrams to remove the risk of someone on our team (including myself) from accidentally editing? I have seen other posts about changing the status to “approved” or “completed” but this does not prevent editing from my experience.

Hi @rob413, thanks for your post! Unfortunately, locking a diagram upon completion isn’t currently supported in Lucid, but we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post:

However, I do have a few workarounds that you might find useful:

  1. Update the sharing permissions for all collaborators on the document to view-only. While this won’t prevent you from editing, it will prevent everyone else from doing so while allowing them to access the document in the same way.
  2. Lock all of the objects within the canvas (right click > Lock/unlock > Lock). This won’t prevent anyone with access to the document from unlocking and then editing the shapes, but this would prevent any accidental changes.
  3. Publish the document and utilize that new URL as the source of truth.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks, it would be great if this feature could be implemented.

We often have network diagrams that are “current” standards which are updated once a year or even less. We want to make sure that modifications aren’t done to the standards unless it is intentional. Often times just opening a Lucid diagram to view and zoom in on details can easily cause a digram to be modified unintentionally. We’d like the ability for anyone on the team to modify a diagram, but would want them to have to click unlock first.

@Colin Groothius Thanks for your comment. This ability is currently unsupported in our products - please be sure to upvote this request if you’ve not already!

I have upvoted this, and need to be able to lock/freeze/protect a Lucidspark whiteboard after we finish our Agile Ceremony.  The results of the meeting are documented on the document, and it is valuable to retain, but I must be able to prevent editing  This is a Team document in a team folder so the “share as read-only” doesn’t work.  Everyone is an owner.  There is a Status field that can be set to “Completed”.  All you would have to do is make that Status lock the whiteboard from editing.

This seems like very obvious functionality, but I have seen people asking about it for a long time.  If you need some guidance, please reach out to me.  Thanks.

I would like to see this implemented as well.

Use case:

I am a solutions architect and regularly share designs / technical diagrams with customers and business stakeholders. I need the ability for them to copy a “MASTER” page and make edits that I can then review and adopt into the final diagram if desired. Today I do this by renaming the first page to “MASTER (DO NOT EDIT”, then create a copy page called “Working Copy”. I then lock the diagram on the MASTER. It is not fool proof.

Possible solutions:

  1. Ability to lock an entire page with a password. That prevents it from being copied or modified in any way.
  2. Allow per-page collaborator permissions. That would let me make the MASTER page read-only for everyone except me.
  3. Implement a ‘track changes’ feature like Microsoft Word / Excel where I can review and approve/reject changes by collaborators.

Any of these solutions would go a long way to making Lucid more team / collaboration friendly.
