Set default size of shapes in Lucidchart to metric units to match grid

Related products:Lucidchart

Jonny S

The default document grid sizes seems to be set to imperial measurements which is fine I can change to metric and set a new grid spacing. But now whenever I add a new shape the shapes size is still their default imperial size so don't line up with the grid and I have to manually change it. I know I can set the default style of shapes but the size does not seem to be included in this.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Jonny

Hi Jonny

Changing the default units will not have an effect on the default shape size. Unfortunately there is not a way to edit the default shape size in Lucidchart - the shapes dragged on to the canvas will always be dragged onto the canvas with the same dimensions.

As a workaround, you can create custom shapes following the instructions in this article. Using the custom shapes option you can resize a shape to the desired dimensions and save the newly sized shape as a custom shape allowing you to drag that shape onto the canvas with the correct dimensions each time it is needed. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I also have the same suggestion.

I want to have a default shape size for the shapes. e.g. Square I want to have a size of 1x1.

And reading the thread I don't see any option to do so. Hope Lucidchart will add this feature.

It’s really fantastic to hear that you’ve got things nailed down for everyone in the USA and Liberia. For the rest of the entire planet, is there any chance we can choose to have default shape sizes in something other than equivalent freedom units (e.g. 2.54cm X 1.91cm for a rectangle)?

Hi @aenicholas

Thank you for the reply! It is currently not possible in any region to set shape default size in cm, it is only available for px, but we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. Please first search the Product Feedback section of this community (with the filter Topic Type = Idea) to see if it’s already been submitted. If so, please add any additional details you’d like and upvote the request - this consolidation helps to refine feedback and properly capture the popularity of the request.

If no one has submitted this idea yet, please create one of your own and be sure to include details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience. This will also allow other users with similar requests to discover and upvote it, then add details of their own.

Some suggestions:

  1. allow the default style of an icon to also set the size of the icon when when it is dragged across
  2. Allow the used to prevent the grid for auto resizing when zooming. When I set a grid to 0.5cm I expect it to stay that way so I can get a handle on how the flow chart will appear on the chosen paper size.

The outcome would be that :0

  • We have less need for the roller (that is always in imperial and does not align with the grid)
  • Doing a quick draft of a flow chart will be so so much easier to get the formatting right as we go rather than having to correct later.

Otherwise why not just take out the metric option as it has no real meaning and just causes more frustration.

Many thanks for listening :0)

Steve
