Hello,

I’m sorry if this topic has come up before. I have a template made and imported my data. Because our org chart is not “typical” to LucidChart standards, I’ve had to do a workaround with my data, which was suggested by a customer service assistant. Now I have lines that I do not need, and the functions to delete them are grayed out and not accessible. I really enjoy the template option. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s not much you can do with it. I can only extend my lines so much, and can’t edit ANYTHING. I have done ALL the courses, earned my badge, watched every YouTube video tutorial, read every article, and reached out to customer service multiple times. Lucidchart has really amazing options, which is why my employer paid for this. I am suggesting that you offer the same features on templates as many companies don’t have a standard org chart. I have spent so much time just trying to figure this out. It seems it was supposed to be extremely easy, but too much has been done or not done to make it more complicated than it should be.

For now, how can I delete a line in a template? It is not due to imported data. There is absolutely no information anywhere as to where I can get a usable answer. Please consider my feedback and I would appreciate it so much if I can get an answer for this. Also, I think giving more options as far as shapes go in your templates would be much better as well. Thank you!

Hi @katievbrcm

Thank you for your post in the Community! I apologize for any hinderance to your workflow this issue has caused you. You can only delete a line in an Org Chart by deleting the shape it is connected to.

We really appreciate your feedback about Org Charts and are very interested in your feedback.

If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Thank you for the answer! Besides the suggestion I made in the first post, I think it would be ideal to put some literature out there as to what can and cannot do if using a template. My biggest issue was trying to get more answers regarding templates. Everything I researched was mostly for creating a manual org chart. Lucidchart has a wealth of information out there that is very useful, but it doesn’t distinguish between manual org charts and using a template. Thanks again!

Hi @Kai W

Thanks for your additional feedback! We appreciate it. To clarify our Org Charts are a distinct feature outside of templates. When you use the Org Chart shapes, your diagram will be subject to those features.

HI @Kelsey Gaag, I also am confused about why we can’t edit the Org chart diagram.  The template definitely doesn’t work for our organisation, I need to be able to edit the reporting lines in particular.
The other problem is when I attempt to create an org chart from scratch, the reporting lines overlap each other on lower branches, which causes an unsightly bold line/branch.

Hi @jacmotel

Thank you for the reply and additional information! I apologize that our feature is not meeting your needs. While you can’t delete lines without deleting the Org Chart shape, you can add lines if needed.

I would recommend checking out this Community post. Please feel free to add any other feedback you have to this thread!
