I teach elementary so I made this quick timeline activity using visual activities.  I posted the link to Google Classroom for the students to complete.  This helped them review the 4 major events related to the first Thanksgiving.  I liked how it was a quick easy way to review what we had been learning about Thanksgiving.

Hey everyone!  I teach 4th grade and on the week of Thanksgiving I like to talk with students about other holidays that are celebrated in November across the world.  I created this visual activity to get students curious and interested before we read about each of the holidays.  Here is a copy of my template in case you wanted to try it.

Now that it is November, Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  I learned a fun, interesting fact the other day that Turkey’s and T-Rex’s are related!  This made me think it would be fun to have students research surprising and fun facts related to Thanksgiving and add them to a collaborative Lucidspark concept map or you could have students do this in small groups or independently.  Here is a template you can start with to try it out.

Because most of my students are newcomers and have little to no experience with Thanksgiving we do a Thanksgiving Traditions Mind Map. This helps my students who are new to the country learn about Thanksgiving traditions while enabling their peers to share their own customs and practices through collaborative brainstorming. I divide students into small groups, mixing new students with those familiar with Thanksgiving. Each group brainstorms different aspects of Thanksgiving traditions (food, family activities, activities, customs). They add branches to the mind map for each category they discuss. They use text, images, and icons to represent their ideas. I then bring everyone back together and allow each group to present their section of the mind map. Students ask questions and peers to share their personal experiences and traditions.
