It would be great if you had a setting for shapes to resize based on the text entered. Something you could turn off or on if you’d like. Or at the very least, a way to edit the text box within the shape like you can in Visio.

Hi @KariOertelCDW, thanks for your post! Shapes in Lucidchart do adjust/resize based on the text in the shape. Is this what you are looking for?

I’m actually looking for the opposite - where the text changes size - so if you shrink the shape, the text gets smaller. Because often times - I don’t want a huge shape to fit the text at a certain font - I’d like to make the shape smaller and have the text shrink with it. A person can dream! :)

@KariOertelCDW If you change the font size to be ‘Auto’, it will do just that! Neat lil feature we have :)

@sshellman OMG - I never noticed that! Thank you for point that out! 🙂 Exactly what I was looking for!

What if I want neither the shape nor the text to resize?

We have a set of custom shapes that are designed to work/fit together while snapping to a 0.125” grid (because 0.0625” rounds to 0.63” and no longer aligns with page rulers). When the shape auto-expands in height, it no longer aligns with its neighbors (because only edges, not centers, snap to the grid).

It’s fine if the standard-sized text overflows a bit. We can manually adjust the width to accomodate if needed.

@k8siegel We do have a feature where you can lock the size of a block! The only thing is, it will also lock the block’s position on the canvas. That may or may not be helpful in your case.

Alas, still need to be able to move the box. Just want to lock the size. 😥
