Hi there,

My lucid chart is condensed all of a sudden. There was a whole flow in there, but now boxes are layered on another and the whole chart is hard to read. I can’t access version history to fix it.

Please send help :)

Hi @Lucid_Endeavour

this usually means the diagram layout was changed, objects were grouped/moved into the same position, or an auto-arrange/layout action compressed the canvas. The good news is you can often recover readability without version history. Lucid’s revision history exists, but access depends on your plan, and it is typically available from the cloud “saved” icon or the menu option for revision history.

Here are some suggestions that you can try:

  1. Undo immediately - Press Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z a few times in case the layout shift just happened.
  2. Select the affected area, not the whole document. Drag-select the messy section only. Then go to Arrange and use:
    • Align objects
    • Distribute objects

These tools are specifically meant to restore spacing and alignment between shapes.

  1. Use Assisted Layout - If the boxes are stacked or crammed together, select the affected flow and apply Assisted layout from the Arrange options. Lucid’s assisted layout is designed to automatically organize objects into a cleaner structure and improve spacing.
  2. Check whether objects were grouped - If several boxes are moving as one cluster, they may be grouped. Ungroup them, then re-align and redistribute.
  3. Check containers, swimlanes, or frames - If the flow is inside a container, swimlane, or frame, resizing or layout behavior inside that structure can compress everything. Assisted layout specifically works with frames, containers, and swimlanes, so that is a strong clue if the collapse happened “all at once.”
  4. Zoom and page settings - Sometimes the diagram is not actually broken; the page view or document settings changed. Open document settings and confirm the canvas/page setup still looks normal.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Lucid_Endeavour, thanks for posting in the Lucid Community! The suggestions that @Ria S offered are great places to start here, so I’d recommend those. If you’re still having trouble, would you mind answering the questions below to help me take a closer look?

First, I recommend trying the following steps. Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility.

  • Could you try opening your board in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.
  • Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)?

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • A screenshot of the issue.
  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!
