Lucid PWA opens documents in new browser window instead of app

I’ve come back to Lucid to start documents for a new program and seen a massive shift in behavior of the Progressive Web App.

When I launch the app, it takes me to my home. All good. When I try to open a document, it bounces me to a standard browser tab. Not good.

I updated chrome to the latest, Version 151.0.7922.109 (Official Build) (64-bit), on Win 11. Then uninstalled the PWA, closed chrome, restarted the computer, and re-installed the PWA after logging in (Home), to get the same new-browser tab behavior.

Digging in, it looks like the scope of the PWA as reported by chrome (chrome://apps/ → App Settings → Supported Links) is limited to “lucid.app/documents/*”. However, lucidchart documents open in “lucid.app/lucidchart/*” and “lucid.app/lucidspark/*”.

It looks like lucid needs to update the manifest for the PWA or is there something I’ve managed to overlook?

Thanks,

Hi @MHawkins VMT, thank you for posting in the Lucid Communnity! I’m happy to help!

First, I recommend trying the following steps. Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility.

  • Could you try opening your board in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.
  • Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)?

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • The details of the device you’re using to help us take a closer look.
  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!

Hi @Ambar D, I’m not sure how to open a PWA in a private / incognito tab since the whole point of the PWA is to eliminate the tabs. I can tell you this happens on 2 different Window 11 PCs on different networks, one internal work network, one at home, but the same version of chrome.

The PCs ThinkPads: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U, Radeon 780M, Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.8893, and Google Chrome Version 151.0.7922.109 (Official Build) (64-bit).

The final red line starting with “POST” is the line that shows up after I click open on a document and a new standard browser tab opens in another window.

Hi @MHawkins VMT, thank you for these details!

My apologies for the delay here. Could you share a temporary Document Support PIN for this document? This will help me take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff. You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this Lucid Help Center article: Generate a Lucid Support PIN.

Thank you for your help and patience as I look into this further.

Hi @Ambar D ,

I’ll clarify that there is no difference in behavior for any and all documents I select from the PWA. Every one documents kick me out of the PWA context into a standard browser tab.

After some more experimentation; when I create a new document from the PWA window, it opens that document in a PWA window. After I close that new document and attempt to open it from the same PWA window used to create it, the new document opens in a standard browser tab like all the other documents I’ve previously created.

Here is a pin to the “new” lucid chart document I created and referenced in the discussion above: duTDJoNEhrMPWQU3P4vh8UNMqmhUtqJ2OK197772363

Here is a pin to an old lucid spark document I created a very long time ago: du3jgEAExHoSXNeWDdJ10DNnOmw12omTHk197772363

Both of these documents, when I try to open them from the PWA context take me to a browser rather than reuse the current PWA window (old behavior), or open a new PWA window (new document behavior, desired for all documents if given the choice).

If there is something more specific, can share some insight about what might be happening so I can pick a representative item? However
