That is correct, you need to leave your document and browser open until you are reconnected to the internet, even if you are done making change or edits will not be saved. If you would like this functionality to be changed or improved, I would recommend posting an idea in our Product Feedback section of the community - from here, other users can upvote it and add details of their own.

Yes you can! You just have to click on "Make recent Lucidchart documents available on this computer" under account settings document settings and offline settings. There are a couple features that don't work while you're offline but it'll sync back up when you're back on Wifi. Hope this helps :)

+1If I’m reading the help article correctly, The offline feature requires you to leave the document and browser open until you can reconnect with the Lucid Site. That’s pretty inconvenient.
Has there been any consideration to allowing to “save” the offline changes, close the browser, reboot, whatever, and then upload them when you are back online?
