How to Stop Automatic Line Path Changes

I changed a couple of settings the other day that changed the line behavior in a way that I don’t like. I feel like I’ve gone through just about every setting possible at this point, though, and can’t seem to make it revert, so I’m wondering if someone can help me identify the name.

When I try to connect one object to another, the system ignores where I start and end and just decides on its own. What it chooses is often completely nonsensical and doesn’t do what I’m trying to make it do. Sometimes I can redirect the lines, but the way lines interact with other lines seems to be goofy now as well. For instance, they refuse to end at the same point. Also when I’m trying to draw one line, if it crosses another, the second line starts moving around.

I’ve toggled all of the snapping behaviors that I can find, and nothing changes. I’ve also read about the smart guides, etc., but this behavior just started at the same time as I was playing around with some settings the other day, so it doesn’t seem to be a system-wide bug.

What am I missing?

PS. Admins, why put an embedded media option in this form and then disallow any relevant website where that media would be hosted and make users try to guess what the acceptable hosting platforms are?

Hi @rion1205, thank you for posting in the Community, and I am very sorry for our delayed response!
It looks like your post fell through the cracks. I’ll be happy to help.

First, I recommend trying the following steps. Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility.

Could you try opening your board in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? For help with opening an incognito window, please see this  community post .

Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)?

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • A screenshot of your document settings, Lines especially
  • Confirm whether this occurs in other documents as well
  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!
