Create a vertical org chart and spaced out groups in Lucidchart
Hi,
I am trying to set up a vertical org chart with two columns below a supervisor simi9lar to this image>
I have seen on another ticket that this is possible by manually moving the shapes but the linked page doesn’t describe how to do this and when I move the shape it links it to another supervisor.
The two highlighted shapes are not part of the tier levels and aren’t linked to the next level higher than themselves. I am wanting to do something similar as we have two owners which I need to have close together but with one having a long line to a different group of employees and a second tier 2 employee that is moved away from the main group (see example below)
Thanks Chris

Hi @Chris Mc,
Thank you for posting in the Community! To address your first question, does this screenshot look like what you are trying to achieve for a vertical org chart?
For your second question, I did some investigating to see how you could isolate a group from the main section. Unfortunately you can’t move the shapes further away, but as a work around you can add more org chart shapes to the document, and connect them manually with a line. (pictured below)
Let me know if this helps!
Hi Kelsey,
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, in response to your answer to the first question, it isn’t, the answer you supplied suggests a hierarchy below Erika and Russell where each of the 4 New Employees are on an equal footing.
The reason for the two columns is down to space. We have 2 senior managers one has 6 team members the other has 12. so rather than having on column of 6 and one of 12 a more aesthetically useful design would be to have on double column 3 deep and one 6 deep.
Better news on the second answer, this should suffice, I haven’t looked at it in detail but I’m guessing it will break the supervisor/worker link but we should be able to work with that.
Thanks Chris
Hi @Chris Mc,
Thank you for the reply and clarifying what you are looking for! Lucid’s Org Chart feature doesn’t support a double column layout, however, if you are looking to have a more vertical orientation and save space, you can choose the layout style show below. This allows for more space across the document.
If you would like to see the double column functionality, I would recommend posting it as an idea in our Product Feedback section. This will also allow other users with similar requests to discover and upvote it, then add details of their own.
Happy to hear that the second answer was more helpful. Let me know if you have further questions on that.
