Hi @Kurt Hollis,

Thank you for your patience and for clarifying your exact workflow—that makes total sense, and I completely understand why this is frustrating when managing multi-diagram canvases.

Copying and pasting specific diagram selections into Word isn't currently supported, nor is partial-selection embedding available via the Word add-in. I checked with our product team, and unfortunately this isn't on our current roadmap.

The closest workaround without breaking up your canvas is organizing grouped shapes onto separate pages within one Lucidchart document, as the Word add-in allows you to embed targeted pages. Quick screen captures can also work well for inline pasting.

While this exact workflow isn't natively supported today, we're very interested in your feedback and committed to improving our products. If you’re willing to share more details about your use case, we’d love to hear your thoughts in this community thread.

Looks like this function is broken again. I’ve asked my IT team to source an alternate software solution as this continues to disrupt workflow and is unacceptable.

Hi @Kurt Hollis,

Thanks so much for your patience here. I checked in with our internal product team on this, and I'll follow up here as soon as I hear back from them.

Hi @Kurt Hollis,

Thank you for your patience, and sorry for the ongoing frustration here — I know this has been a recurring pain point.

I checked in with our product team, and the recommendation is to use the Word add-in rather than relying on raw copy/paste. Copy/paste into Word or PowerPoint isn't formally supported and won't reliably preserve layered shapes or images the way you need, whereas the add-in is the better-supported path for getting Lucid content into Word. You can find setup instructions here: Install Lucid add-ins for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

If you haven't already tried it, it's worth setting up and testing against your wiring diagrams to see if it handles the grouped/layered shapes the way you need. Let me know how it goes, and if it doesn't fully solve your use case, I'm happy to keep digging.

Hi Alison,

Thanks for the attempt. I suspect your product team don’t actually use LucidChart or this wouldn’t be an ongoing issue.

The copy/paste allows multiple diagrams (shapes) to be grouped into a single document. The shapes (and layers within) are then able to be copied and pasted quickly into a Word doc and resized without image loss.

Unfortunately the embed function doesn’t solve this problem as it selects the entire document, rather than just the required shapes and layers.

Now i’m faced with the choice of either abandoning any existing files and restarting on another platform that is user friendly, or manually turning each of these shapes into their own individual documents, then having to view/handle them separately each time they are required.

Forgive the frustration, it’s just another case of product engineers deciding how things SHOULD be used instead of how things are ACTUALLY used.
