Card-dragging is buggy in Lucid Gantt chart

When I am working in the Gantt Chart Template, I place a Card then Left-Click and drag (the whole card, not just one side) to move it along the timeline. For the most part when I do this, it moves as if I’m dragging it; then when I drop the card in the desired spot, it snaps back to the spot where I grabbed it from.

At random, as I can’t find a pattern, it will let me drop it where I want it; showing a blue box beneath it. I can click and drag the sides to adjust start and end, but am unable to move the whole card.

This issue occurs in both LucidSpark and LucidChart.

Hopefully, I explained that well enough to Identify if I am messing it up or if there’s a bug. Just trying to save time and intuitively manipulate the elements. Thank you!

Edit: The snap back also occurs when selecting the whole card and using the arrow keys to move the card. I get a few moves out of it, but then it snaps back.

Hi @BellRed,

It sounds like you're caught in a frustrating tug-of-war with your Gantt chart! This snap-back behavior usually happens when there is a conflict between your manual movement and the automated logic Lucid applies to Timeline objects. To make sure I’m on the right track, it sounds like you are placing a Card onto a Gantt or Timeline template, but Lucid is rejecting the new placement and forcing the card back to its original assigned date coordinates. The blue box you mentioned sounds like the landing zone where Lucid thinks the card should snap on the calendar grid. When it works at random, it's likely because the card finally aligned perfectly with the Timeline's internal date logic.

To help me narrow down if this is a settings issue or a genuine bug, I have a few clarifying questions. First, are these cards synced to an external data source like Jira, Asana, or an imported spreadsheet? If they are, the Timeline might be snapping the card back because the Start Date in your external data hasn't changed, causing the sync to override your manual drag. Second, are you dragging the card into a specific lane or group? Sometimes if a Timeline is grouped, moving a card to a different row causes a snap-back if that row isn't configured to accept new elements.

In the meantime, you might find success by holding the card over the new spot for a split second until the blue landing zone box appears clearly before letting go. You should also check if the Timeline is grouped by right-clicking it; if it is, try ungrouping to see if the movement becomes more fluid. Another potential fix is to go to the View menu, select Grid, and turn off "Snap to Grid," as the document grid and the Timeline grid can sometimes fight each other and cause the card to jump back.

For more detailed instructions, you can visit the Lucid Support page on Working with Timelines or the guide on Using Lucid Cards to see how data mapping affects movement.

Hi @BellRed,

Thank you for posting in the Lucid Community, and thank you, @Shira M for your detailed response and support!

Have you tried the suggestions Shira recommended? Her points about data syncing and grid conflicts are spot on for this type of behavior, so I’d recommend testing those specific steps first to see if they resolve the snapping issue.

One other thing that comes to mind is to rule out any performance issues. If the issue persists, could you try the following steps below?

  • Open your document in a private or incognito window. For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.
  • Connect to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable). Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility.

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • A screenshot of the issue.

  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Thank you for your help and patience!
