Automatically create external links in an org chart

I have created a tree structure using Org Chart from an Excel Import.

Each ‘employee’ box has a data set of variables imported from an external excel sheet.

One of those variables is called URL and on each employee it contains the full URL data for an external app I wish to link to for that employee.

If I highlight an individual box the ‘Link to’ menu option lights up. If I click that I  can then manually copy the contents of that box’s URL variable into the ‘Link to’ dialog. Now that individual box is correctly linked to the external app! Success!

BUT I want to do that for all the 500+ boxes… is there away to make this automatic?

@Mike Sanders QR RRSMR Unfortunately, what you are trying to achieve is currently not supported in Lucid, and another user has submitted a similar idea:

@Mike Sanders QR RRSMR Please check out “Manage data” under Create an org chart: https://help.lucid.co/hc/en-us/articles/16463330693268-Create-an-org-chart#update-refresh-replace-and-overlay-data-in-an-org-chart

Currently, Lucidchart doesn’t support directly linking the same dataset to multiple pages in a way that would automatically update all copies of the org chart when you refresh the data. To streamline this process, you’ll need to manually replace the dataset on each page whenever you want the org chart to be updated. While this does work for updating the data on different pages, it’s not as automatic as having a single link to the same dataset across multiple pages.

Also, automatic refresh will not work with a data-based org chart. The other type of data linking is the enterprise-only feature that allows you to upload a data set and freely associate it with any kind of shape, as well as refresh and replace it as needed using the general data management panel, but not in a data-based org chart.

I recommend that you copy this over to the Product feedback section (https://community.lucid.co/ideas) so other users can vote on it, so that it can be considered for a future release.

This is an excellent and useful answer, but it is to a different question than the one I meant to ask!

Although I can see the benefits of an automatic incoming data update the manual approach works fine for me in this particular case.

I have reread the question I posted and understand how it could have misinterpreted this way!!!

HOWEVER! My question is to do with ‘outgoing’ links from the chart itself.

As previously stated I have a variable on each box/node/person which contains the URL of that required ‘outgoing’ link. If I select a node I can manually click on the ‘Link To’ menu icon and copy the contents of the URLOUT variable from the selected node into the popup dialog for that same node. This creates a live outgoing link for that node (exactly what I want ~ but on ALL nodes). If I select multiple nodes…. the menu is greyed out.. so that is not the answer.

I have ~500 nodes!!! This is the bit I want to automate! Any ideas?
