How to create a shortcut to a document at the folder level like symbolic link
I’m looking to create a soft link or symbolic link or shortcut in a different folder to an original document without copying the document. I do see someone created such a link in our workspace, see below, but can’t find documentation on how to do it. I’m not referring to a hotlink or associated shortcut within a document. This is at the folder level as shown below, it even has a special arrow icon.

Hi @muthu,
I was able to recreate this scenario:
Share the document with the Team so it shows up in the Teams Documents
Note: Technically this keeps the file in its original location, but it doesn’t show as a link like in your picture, but maybe this is ok?
Click and Drag the file from the root level into the next level down folder for that team
The file stays in the root location, but in the folder it shows as a quick link:
If that didn’t work for you or didn’t answer the question, can you give me the exact steps of where you’re getting to the file screen?
Thanks,
Eric
Hi @muthu - for some reason I can’t edit my post above but I was able to locate this information which may also answer your question on the Sharing FAQ page:
Can I add a document that has been shared with me to one of my folders? Yes. You can create a shortcut to a document that has been shared with you by dragging it into “My Documents” or a folder you have created in your Lucid Home Page. Shortcuts are indicated by an arrow icon that will appear on the product-specific icon found to the left of the document title.
Documents with shortcuts will retain their original sharing permissions. When you add a shortcut to one of your folders, it will not change the document’s original location within Lucid, and therefore will also not change who has access to the document.
Hi @Grieser, Thank you so much for taking time to answer this question. Following your steps, I was able to recreate that as well. This is not intuitive, in fact, confusing, to me at least. Seems the document moved to Team root folder from “My documents” folder, though I only “shared” it. The document now shows in the root folder of the Team and as 2 shortcut links in the Team subfolder and in My Documents folder. Just a thought, would it better if there is an easy way to create this shortcut just like how hotlink is created? Thanks again @Grieser, appreciate your quick help.
Hi @muthu I agree with you -- technically the document in the root team folder could have the link icon since it’s not the original. Also, it would be nice if you move it to a subfolder, it moves it out of the root.
I did a quick skim of ideas to see if anyone else has requested this but it doesn’t look like it (and short cut is a tough word to filter out . Please submit an enhancement request topic here: Product feedback | Community
Let me know if you have any further questions!
Thanks,
Eric
Hi @Grieser, I was also able to break it and leave a broken link in the Team subfolder. Clicking the shortcut in the subfolder gives this error message.
I created a test document in My documents, shared it to the Team, then moved it to the subfolder (it says “item moved”, but seems like copied).
After shortcut is created in subfolder, I deleted the document in My documents folder. It deleted it from the Team root folder, but not the shortcut in the subfolder.
