Here’s a roundup of the most asked questions (and the answers) about diagramming with Lucid AI.
Does Lucid use customer data to train AI models / LLMs?
No. Using Lucid’s AI capabilities doesn’t result in customer data being used to train any generative AI models available to third parties. Lucid stores anonymized and redacted prompts and responses for its own internal error handling and analysis, ensuring there is no direct connection to individual Lucid users or documents. Both Lucid and Microsoft adhere to stringent policies that segregate user data from model training processes, ensuring customer data remains a standalone entity used solely for its intended purpose and maintaining a high standard of user privacy and data confidentiality. How do I use Lucid AI to create swimlanes in my diagram?
We recently released swimlane creation within Lucid AI! Simply specify in your prompt that you would like swimlanes in your diagram. You can do this in your original prompt or ask Lucid AI to add swimlanes to your diagram once you’re in the iteration phase. If you would like your swimlanes to be labeled a specific way, you can specify that in the prompt.
Can I prompt Lucid AI to clean up or customize the formatting of my diagram (lines, shapes, colors, etc.)?
If there are specific shapes you’d like to use in your diagram, you can include that information in your prompt. Currently, Lucid AI is not able to change shapes in bulk. But you can use the “Change Shape” icon that appears when you click a shape to quickly swap it to a different shape.
Similarly, for colors, you can specify that certain shapes be certain colors in your prompt using conditional formatting, but Lucid AI will not change an entire color scheme. Keep an eye on Lucid release notes for updates on using colors with Lucid AI!
For any line cleanup you need, we recommend using the assisted layout or tidy up features.
Can I use Mermaid code with Lucid AI to create my diagram?
You can generate a diagram using Mermaid code in Lucidchart, but that functionality is not found under Lucid AI. It’s found under the “Diagram as code” menu in the Primary Toolbar on the left-hand side of the Lucidchart canvas.

How do I activate dictation for Lucid AI prompts?
Currently, dictation is not native to Lucid. If you’re using a Mac, use F5 to bring up dictation. If you’re using a PC, press the Windows key + H.
Can I upload resources for Lucid AI to build as a diagram?
You can upload files that Lucid AI will reference, but it will not recreate an image as a diagram on the canvas exactly. Lucid AI will take the attached document and use it to guide the creation of a diagram. We support image, PDF, or TXT file uploads.
Can Lucid AI look at content outside of my document to reference?
No, Lucid AI only looks at the content on the board; it cannot look at other documents, boards, or materials outside of the one document.
Can I generate a diagram based on custom shapes or custom templates?
Lucid AI does not support custom shapes or templates at this time. Feel free to share your ideas for feature requests here: https://community.lucid.co/ideas
Why don’t I see Lucid AI in Lucidchart?
Lucid’s AI capabilities are currently available to all users*. If you are on an enterprise account and you don’t see Lucid AI in Lucidchart, check with your Lucid admin about enabling AI.
