Hi there !

I’m struggling for a while without being able to find a solution to my problem.

Here is the context: I created an orgchart using the import function with an *.xlsx file. Within this latter I have several column, as it’s a big orgchart I wanted to create one tab per department (1 dedicated column within my file)

I went through the import path and all went well, I checked the option “Create separate orga chart for each:” and selected the Department column of my file.

I have now many tabs named by department with the department orgchart within them. Within each tab, if I click on the orgchart, the data section on the right side shows that there is one filter applied on the Department column of my source.

In the same data section, within the manage data menu I’m able to export a CSV, make several updates and replace it, by doing this all the tabs are updated at once.

All this was quite easy but here is the issue I’m facing: I would like to create a new department and still being able to upload and replace data once but I didn’t find how…

I tried the following:

  • duplication of one tab => KO
  • adding a new tab and copy/paste the content of another tab => KO

While all the initial tabs seems to be linked to the same source, the new tabs aren’t but are linked between them. When I do a modification on any new tab it appear within the Export from any of these new tabs but not in the Export of the first tabs.

I hope that I have share enough detail to help you understand my issue and provide some help/new idea to proceed and find a solution.

Thanks a lot !

Hi @ybousnina, thanks for your post! Unfortunately, as Huma mentioned, updating your dataset currently does not add a new page for a new ‘region’. The only way to do this will be to create a new import which as you have noticed, unfortunately does not retain conditional formatting and other formatting.

That said, we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. Hi @ybousnina

Currently, there is a limitation in syncing new department tabs with the original data source after initial import.

To maintain a connection between all tabs and ensure they stay updated, you'll need to update your full data file and re-import everything using the 'Replace Data' option. This will recreate the tabs, including all departments, and keep them connected for future updates.

Thank you very much and have a great one!

Thanks @Humas1985

Understood. But when I add new Department and use the ‘Replace Dataset’ option, only the existing tabs are updated and no new one are created to show the Department I added.

Is the ‘Replace Data’ option you are refering to another one than the ‘Replace Dataset’ option on the right panel of the orgchart within the ‘Data’ tab?

If you are maybe refering to the ‘Import data’ option within the ‘Shapes’ menu on the left side under ‘Org Chart’ section, I also tried it but it didn’t work. It created new tabs and didn’t update the existing ones. This option could actually be a solution but I’m facing another issue: I’m losing all the layouts I made in every single tab (I have 20+ of them). If you are aware of a way to apply the same layout (style+Employee fields) and Conditional Formatting for several orgcharts in separate tabs that could be a perfect workaround!

thanks!

Hi @ybousnina

We cant apply conditional formatting across multiple pages or tabs in bulk. Even with Master Pages, rules need to be recreated per tab, so adding a new department via re-import will still require manually reapplying any conditional formatting.

Hi @ybousnina

On the Enterprise plan, Lucidchart can refresh Excel data only if your workbook is stored in a supported Microsoft 365 location (OneDrive or SharePoint) and linked via the Data Linking feature. This integration can be refreshed manually in-app, and—if permissions allow—set up for automatic refresh.
Local file uploads cannot refresh automatically, so you’d need to re-upload.
If you want auto-refresh without re-upload, you could switch to Google Sheets or link your Excel file via OneDrive/SharePoint.

Hope this helps !!
