Looking for a new feature in Lucidchart to move the text field of a shape to a different location. For example all shapes have the text field at the bottom of the shape but there are times I need to move that text field to the sides or the top of the shape instead. The work around now is to delete the text in the text field that comes with the shape and use a custom text field instead. It would be nice to be able to just move the shape's text field to a different arrangement around the shape instead as the shape's text field will always stay with the shape unlike a custom text field where you have to group it together. I used this feature all the time in Visio but it is missing in Lucid.
Hi Brad
Thank you for posting in the Lucid Community! Shapes with text do have limited interactions available at this time if you are looking to realign the text inside your shapes you can navigate to the Alignment option in the top tool bar to select different text alignment options.
The workaround you mentioned with creating a separate text box and grouping it with a shape is the recommended workaround currently available.
While there is currently not an option to create text around the shapes borders we're always looking for ways to improve Lucidchart and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

I would love to have this capability as well because when I create network diagrams lines come in from all four directions, very often obscuring the text. Being able to move it around the shape would allow me to make the text readable without having to resort to the workaround or do crazy line routing.
Is this still the case? Is a very useful feature in other diagram mapping tools...
Hi
Using the process shape as an example, you can use the alignment tool in the top tool bar to change the position of the text in the shape.

Alternatively, you can use the text options tool to adjust the right/left indent, spacing, etc. as you please.

To learn more, I suggest reading through the Add and style text in Lucidchart article from the Help Center. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about this or if I’m misunderstanding what you are hoping to achieve!
Within about 5 minutes of using LucidChart I came across this shortcoming. It is supported by almost every other diagramming tool.
I should be able to reposition labels under objects so that they don’t obscure e.g. arrows.
