JSON Export does not include all the data I need

I want to export a Spark/Chart diagram to JSON for onward use. The diagrams are all conceptual data models built using Containers and standard shapes. We used the notes field extensively tagged to a shape.

When exporting to JSON (in either spark or chart) some of the data is missing. For example this notes field. Have investigated it seems we can tag the container shape with custom fields which might be an option. Also it looks like the CSV does have the notes but it also has a lot of stuff I don’t want and would have to write macros to strip out. I’ve not yet tried VSX which I assume is just XML.

Have I missed something obvious or is this the limit of the export functionality?  I can provide examples of what I mean if helpful.

Thanks!

Hey @Alex-Leigh ,thank you for posting in the community! And thank you @aparrish for your help!

To clarify, are you hoping to see notes and comments push through in the export? Right now, collaboration tools such as comments, tasks, and notes do not appear on exported versions of Lucid documents.

Although this isn’t currently supported in Lucid, we are very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

@Alex-Leigh

There are a few specific things worth noting when working with exporting your document:

  • Try the export in a Chrome Incognito browsing session. This often improves performance by clearing your cache and cookies and disabling your extensions.
  • Sometimes issues like this can be related to internet connection speed or network security. Please try the export again on another network, ensuring that you are on a strong, stable connection.

If the issue persists, can you please send a screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue? You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Here’s the help article on exporting a Lucid document and includes exports to JSON:

https://help.lucid.co/hc/en-us/articles/16324571257492-Export-or-print-a-Lucid-document#export-csv-vsdx-vdx-json

If this is still an issue after all the above, please share a temporary Document Support PIN for this document. This will help official staff take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff. You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this Lucid Help Center article: Generate a Lucid Support PIN

Thanks for that, I think we’ll need to log a call tho because the exports in JSON and XML (VSDX) are very inconsistent and it’s really hard to see why. If I export to CSV, all the information is in there but I don’t want to use CSV.

I’ll post some examples tomorrow when I have more time.

Here is a very simple map I created to show the problem. Not shown on this screenshot are that most of the boxes have tags associated with them. And some links. The bigger boxes are containers, some created in Spark, some in Chart. I have to go back to chart as spark does not have a JSON export available. The JSON code for the export was:

The Tags are missing although they are in the CSV if I export to that. Can’t see an easy way of uploading files, so I haven’t copied that in. If easier, I can log a call direct with you (as I have load more info as well but easier with an upload capability to show the inconsistencies between the JSON, XML and CSV)
