I’m using Chrome to access Lucidchart. However, for some reasons, I cannot see the top menu bar, i.e. the File|Edit|Select|View|…  I believed it was there before. Any idea how can I get it bac? Thanks!

Thank you @erisea, @Dave T., and @pcw for adding to this thread with your feedback. I apologize for the frustration here, but we appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you think.

I use the “Select all shapes with the same...” frequently. In the past, I had to hover over Select, Then the Shapes With The Same option, then select the criteria. Now I also have to click to open the hamburger menu too, every time - plus there is a delay after clicking the hamburger button. That alone is frustrating, ignoring the other interactions that require an additional click for no reason. Genuinely making me rethink paying for this app.

I just submitted a ticket about this one as well. Is there any way to provide an option to make it permanently visible like it was before?

Thanks.

Jason

I’d like to add to this.  Removing the quick buttons on the main screen has been devastating to my productivity with lucidchart.  I was using a free tool which I loved and that had a wonderful user interface.  I changed to lucidchart for the sharing and excellent export capabilities but also to match what my company was using.  this has reduced my productivity using lucidchart that I most likely will not renew my licence at the end of the year and will go back to my free tool.  So difficult to understand why lucid would make such a foolish change to their user interface.

@rob.frick thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience here along with your feedback. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing to your workflow. Although at this time we don’t have an update to share regarding this feature, the best way to indicate support for it to be implemented is to upvote this post.

This interface update has introduced an unnecessary click for every menu access, resulting in a demonstrable loss of efficiency. It's perplexing to see core usability principles, like minimizing clicks (established decades ago), discarded in favor of a seemingly universal, yet less accessible, design trend. Instead of removing a fundamentally accepted form of navigation, the team should have offered users the option of a burger menu or an expanded horizontal view. This choice is a negligible burden on development compared to the impact on user workflow, the proof is given in the comment in this thread.

I agree with general feedback here.  Menu’s have worked well as a UI paradigm for 30+ years.  Removiing them for some percieved UI-cleanliness or spurious product alignment reason is short sighted and non-user centric.

Its added 1 additional click for every “menu journey” and Im shocked and stunned it passed UX acceptance testing.  It also increases the learning curve for those of us who dont spend every day in Lucid as the rest of the world rightly uses menus so we dip into Lucid once a week/month we take a productivity hit and have to retrain our muscle memory.

Its also really bizzare product choice to allow your niche product to drive the UI design of your flagship product.

Either undo the change or make the hamburger vs menu bar a user configurable option.

Hi @GCoale, thank you for this thoughtful and detailed feedback on the new menu.

I can understand how your workflow may be impacted, and I appreciate the time you took to leave details in this thread.

Not only is it an extra click, it’s a difficult one. For example, I do a lot of things with the arrange menu. I have to select it, then move to the right to get to the options. I often slide off of arrange and pull up the menu above or below it, forcing me to restart. It has seriously slowed me down.

Why would you change a core feature location and functionality without providing an option for users to undo the change?  Even Google provides this function with Gmail changes.

Please restore the ability to have menubar options layed out horizontally across the screen.  People who use these features frequently do not want to be bother by having to click through layers of menus to get to what they want every time they go to use a function.

Always remember to provide customers as much customization ability as possible so they can set things up in the way that works best for them.

Oh My!!! Nothing like increasing our work load! PLEASE bring back the menu bar. Even providing hot keys for ALL items is NOT good enough. Hands can be busy and break the flow. Just like having to click on the hamburger and scroll and click and scroll. Please make the Menu Bar optional to be turned ON as it was. Plus, I don't know what Lucidspark is. I don’t want to know.
