Hi there. Is there a way to automatically number the process map boxes? Ie - in the map I have each process box with a little 1 2 3 in the corners? If not automatic is there an easy way to add that in?
Thanks!

Hi Devon
Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately we do not have an automatic feature to add numbers to our shapes. We’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.
Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post.
In the meantime to manually add these numbers I suggest creating text boxes for each process map box with a number. You can then group the two shapes by selecting both the box and the text right-click and click "Group". This will allow you to move and resize both shapes together.
Hope this helps!
Hi I'd like to second this as a necessary feature. It's extremely time consuming adding numbers it would be much easier if each shape would be auto-populated with a number or you could just click through shapes at the end to add numbers much like it works today in visio. Happy to walk through any of your PMs on how this feature could work and the underlying value.
Hi @devon b while there is not a out-of-the-box auto numbering feature this can be done via Conditional Formatting.
Simply create a rule with this formula as the data source: if(isempty(upstreamdeep)1count(upstreamdeep)+1)
. Then to automatically display the number next to the shape be sure to enter the same formula as the text source for a Text Badge Icon.
Finally you must apply the rule to all desired shapes as shown below.
For additional instructions please review our Conditional Formatting article from the Lucid Help Center and let me know if you have any specific questions or concerns.
Hi together.
When i add a gateway (e.g. Number 5) and add then 2 more shapes after that it shows Number 6 (For both shapes). I would like to have each shape a different number (For process description).
Is this possible? Do you know the code how i can number each shape differently or at least one of it ?
Many thanks. (I hope I explained it clear enough :D)
Hey there
Thank you for keeping this thread going! If you take a look at Richard's comment above this shows you how to auto number your shape boxes. Please note that this must be done using arrows as this formula depends on the shapes being connected by process.
Hope this helps -- please let us know if you have any other questions!
Hi thanks. I couldnt find what i needed. Here is an example of mine (There are two 4s but i want them to be 4 and 5 after the gateway):
It could be that i didnt search well enough in the LINK which he sent already in the comment. Are you able to help me by any chance?
I appreciate your help alot
Thank you very much.
Hey Sascha
Thank you for the reply! Taking a look at your diagram the numbering is working as expected. It looks like you have 2 arrows coming from your box #3 which would cause there to be two #4 boxes. In order for numbering to work as the formula intends you can only utilize 1 arrow coming from each box. Unfortunately we do not have native numbering functionality however I love the idea and I think we have many users that would find this functionality useful.
Thank you for the allowing us the opportunity to make Lucid as good as it can be for you and your team -- firm handshake!
I found a way to have full control over the process numbering however it is a bit more manual than the above solutions.
Step 1: For each shape you want to label go to its data panel and select custom data in there you can enter the Process Number (or add a new data point of your own choosing) - see https://developer.lucid.co/formulas/#getting-started
Step 2: Create a conditional formatting rule that displays the Process Number as a text badge and apply the rule to the page or just a selection.
Hi!
Good news! Although there is no way to automatically number the process boxes on a flowchart there is a way to do it using conditional formatting and formulas. For more information on how to do this check out our Auto-Number your Flowchart Community post.
