I have hit a frustrating issue whilst working on a Lucidchart with linked data. What I’m doing is not complicated and the data is simple. Essentially its a business capability model with a RAG status for the maturity level of the capabilities. Each capability has the technology as another smaller box inside them. The original Excel data sheet I linked has the capabilities and the technologies as well as the RAG status in the same sheet. I then set some conditional formatting to colour the boxes based on the RAG status, to red, amber, green.

This caused some issues because the data link identified the technologies as unique and associated the RAG status to them when what I wanted was for the RAG status to apply only to the capabilities. I realise that the data I linked should not have included the technologies if that was my intention, so I removed the data sheet which then had an FYI stating that the shape data will remain intact with the data sheet removed. Now this is where the frustration hits as I now need to find a way of deleting the shape data from each technology shape on my diagram, or even all shapes so that I can start again with fresh data that only applies to my capability shapes. I can go into each individual shape and hit the contextual panel on the right of the screen to see the data and there is an option for “Remove all Data from this Source”, however my diagram is quite big and so I would like to simply select all shapes and then essentially do the equivalent of “Remove all Data from selected Sources”. The trouble is, there is no option anywhere that looks like this, even with the AI editor which kind of does the job but it re-generates the shapes into a completely different format so that’s no good to me as I want to keep the format intact. The solution should be a simple one to perform the “Remove all Data from this Source” across selected items to save me clicking one by one and hitting the same option repeatedly for each.

I have searched the community for answers and tried external search engines for help, to no avail. Does anybody know of a way to achieve this that I am missing?

Thanks for checking this out @Zuzia S

What would be ideal is if you could select multiple shapes and delete the shape data from them in one click. Currently we are only able to delete shape data individually which is time consuming on a large diagram. The ability to delete multiple shapes data would be best served by a button in the contextual menu which you can open after selecting shapes.

This would allow us to save time tidying up shape data in a diagram and would help another use case where we may want to copy a diagram’s shapes into a new diagram but not carry over the shape data with them, which currently has the same issue I’m describing where you’d have to delete the shape data individually.

Thanks

@Dean.Vickers thank you so much for these additional details! I highly encourage anybody else who would like to see this feature implemented in the future to upvote and comment in the thread as all feedback is very incredibly helpful to our product team.

Yes! This!! The same function to apply data to multiple shapes would be highly useful.

Perhaps the option to Group objects and then apply or remove data that way? The manual process is tedious and a ripe environment for human error.

Hey @Patty Ayres, thank you for chiming in! When it comes to linking data to multiple shapes, you can assign data to a group of objects in your Lucidchart document. This help center article outlines step by step directions on how to do this

Cheers!
