Unable to delete shapes in Lucidchart

I did not have this problem when I first used LucidChart, but now I cannot click and hit delete/backspace to delete a shape. When I right click, options like copy/paste appear but there is no delete option. If I just frantically click on things, I eventually get it deleted, but there’s no consistency to it and it’s highly unclear to me what is actually achieving a delete of the shape. Does anyone know how to fix this? It appears to be a bug, because there should be a delete option in the right click menu, as there is for any other software ever created.

Hi @AmalJai

Check whether the object is on a locked layer or underneath another transparent object/layer.

  • Sometime users could only delete/select objects because a background layer or invisible border was intercepting clicks.

Give a try and also you can try from a new / incognito browser to see how this responds?

Hope this helps !!

Hi @AmalJai,

Thank you for posting in the Lucid Community, and thank you @Humas1985 for the great tip on checking to see if the shape is locked in a layer, or underneath a layer!

When you right click on a shape, it should show you the option titled “Delete” as seen in the screenshot below. Is this option not showing up for you when you right click?

In order to take a closer look at the root cause of the issue you’re experiencing, could you try opening your document in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)? Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility. For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • A screenshot of the issue (showing what happens when you right click).

  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!
