I have a BPMN diagram created from a template and using assisted layout for the swimlanes. The diagram is medium in size, currently it has 6 lanes and maybe about 80 shapes within the swimlanes. I have an issue when trying to add an additional lane - using either:

  • the “Lanes” variable in the attributes panel for the “Swim lane” shape (increased from 6 → 7); or
  • using the right-click context menu (Insert Lane Above/Below)

In either case the browser tab becomes unresponsive and the browser shows a warning asking whether to wait or exit the tab (true in both Chrome & Arc). In most cases when exiting the tab and re-opening the diagram the new swimlane has not been added - but occasionally it does then show up.

This occurs on a well powered Macbook M1 Pro.

Hi @sp4

It sounds like the issue is related to the complexity of the diagram performance can degrade when working with larger BPMN diagrams, especially with Assisted Layout enabled

  • Kindly try to Turn off Assisted Layout.
  • This will stop the auto-repositioning of elements and dramatically improve responsiveness.

You can try delegating this by trying in a different browser / incognito.

Else, try duplicating the document and adding the lane before populating it with shapes, Once the swim lane structure is set, paste your shapes back into the diagram

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
