Sync Visibility

Lucidchart offers a sync visibility feature that allows you to establish the initial view of your document. This means you can determine the starting view by choosing which layers you want to be visible. It is also a great tool to use if you want to export only specific layers in your document.

You can find and build layers in your document by selecting the layers icon at the bottom right-hand side of the document screen. For more information on how to create and work with layers in your document please review our Layers help center article. You can also find the sync visibility feature in the top right-hand corner of the layers pop-up menu.

Exporting Specific Layers

To export specific layers when exporting a document follow these steps:

  1. Select the layers you would like to be visible.
  2. Choose 'Sync Visibility.'
  3. Export your document.

Refer to the gif below for further examples of how this can be done.

This is a wonderful feature, however the only issue with it is that since Lucidchart did a big update some time ago this feature is no longer in the place demonstrated. In addition, there’s no follow-up as to where it’s been moved to. Any assistance or updating on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Drefer, thank you for continuing this thread and sharing that feedback. Our editor UI was recently updated and you can now find the Layers icon at the bottom-left of the canvas. I’ve attached a GIF below demonstrating where to find this:

Hope this helps. Feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

This information is very helpful. I’ve been exploring the layers option, as I believe it would solve an important organizational need for me. However, I’ve been experiencing an issue because the “Sync Layer Visibility” option is not appearing. I tried running a few tests and checking whether the option might be located elsewhere, but I’m unable to find it. By any chance, do you have any recommendations or pointers on whether I might be missing a step or where I could locate this setting?

This is how it appears on my end.

Next to “Add new layer” is where the option should appear, but it’s not showing up for me.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @DanikaSM, thank you for continuing this thread! The ‘Sync Visibility’ option was updated to ‘Save layer view’ and will only appear when you change which layers to show/hide. Using the screenshot example you shared, the option should appear in the top right corner when you hide one of the layers.

I’ve also included a GIF demonstrating this. The option will appear anytime the layers don’t match the synced visibility:

I hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this.

Excellent! With the update explanation, I can now use Layers properly! Thank you so much for your explanation @Leianne C :)
