I shrunk my text significantly in a row of shapes and was hoping that the shapes would auto resize smaller to fit the shrunken text. On another post, a support team member said that lucid would recognize significant changes in text and reduce shape sizes automatically but not small changes. (See screen shot) - you can see the text size was reduced significantly yet not automatic shape resizing took place.

I asked chatGPT if there was a setting to make shapes auto resize smaller when reducing text size...

It said go to properties panel → text settings →  (text fit, resize options, or text behaviour), however i could not find “text settings” anywhere in the properties panel.

I then provided a screen shot to ChatGPT and it said the following which opened a whole new can of worms.

ChatGPT

“You are NOT using Lucidchart’s standard editor”

You are in the Lucidspark-style editor inside Lucidchart, also known as the “Canvas View” for Lucidchart Cards/Boards.

This interface does NOT show the Style or Text panels, even though it’s technically inside Lucidchart.

That’s why:

  • You only see Layout and Data

  • You can’t access Text, Style, or Auto-resize

  • Your shapes behave like sticky notes / cards

  • Auto-shrink and auto-expand rules for normal Lucidchart shapes do not work here

You are in Card View / Smart Layout Mode, NOT the normal diagramming editor.

Now I have additional questions..

  1. Is is true that I can be in a “lucidspark-style editor” mode within lucid chart?
  2.  If yes, how do I switch to the normal lucid chart diagram editor mode? Because all the options chatgpt suggested for switching out of “lucidspark-style editor” mode did not work for me.
  3. What is “card view / smart layout mode”?

Screen shot

  • Shows significant reduction in text size but shape not auto resizing
  • You can see i’m not in lucid spark and that “text settings” does not exist in the properties panel

Hi @Micah B102 I think ChatGPT has it wrong here - it appears to only have looked at the info on the right side of the screen, where Layout/Data are tabs.

The auto-resizing feature is mostly to let shapes grow - my tests showed the same behavior you were seeing; however, you can use the a trick with the match size feature instead. This is probably going to be the easiest way to resize shapes smaller while retaining their general positions.

  1. Select all the shapes you want to size match and make sure you select the smallest item last.
  2. Right-click on the smaller shape and select "Match Size".
  3. Select the "Both Width and Height" option.
