How to turn off automatic line and shape creation

You can disable automatic line connections by toggling Line Connections off in File > Page Settings > Line Settings. Clicking on this will stop lines from automatically making connections

Thank you for the quick response.  I don’t see a Page Settings menu option in my file?  I see Document Settings and a Line Connections toggle but that removes too much functionality.  I still want the dots to show to connect the elements, I just don’t want it to do that thing where it tries to predict the next Shape?

We don't have a dedicated setting to disable just auto-shape prediction at this time.

However we will take second opinion from Super supporters and if possible, we can add this as an idea for future enhancements.

If so, please add any additional details you’d like and upvote the request - this consolidation helps to refine feedback and properly capture the popularity of the request.

Automatic line and shape prediction has complicated the ability to create custom flow charts with multiple shape types.  Turning it on and off would be a benefit

The recent “feature” of automatically predicting and connecting line activity causes me to spend a lot time erasing unwanted artifacts. I often have to move shapes out of way in order to place lines where I want them.

Please allow this auto prediction to be disabled. It really shouldn’t be a requirement.

A contributor above suggested disabling line connections, which is not what this is about.

Following up on this - it really adds time to the job.  Any headway on this issue?

Also, is there a way to turn off the text insert after a decision point in a flow chart?

Hi ​@T D, thank you for chiming in and for providing more feedback! At the moment, the only workaround we can suggest here is to disable automatic line connections by toggling off Line Connections in File > Page Settings > Line Settings. 

Automatically turning off text insertion following a decision point is currently not supported in Lucid, however you can double click on the text box and delete the word in it. This will then create a solid line.

​@Zuzia S  This “feature” is awful. How are you supposed to connect elements if Lucid keeps adding new elements to your document? Most people I’ve seen using Lucid try to do it this way (myself included):

1. add and position a shape
2. add and position a second shape
3. connect the two shapes

This seems reasonable, but now at 3 Lucid instead adds a third (already connected) shape. Why?!
