I have the add-in installed for Microsoft Word, and can log in and browse my diagrams from within Word and select one to bring in - however, all I get when I do this is the following message, “ There was an issue when inserting the image (Microsoft Error GeneralException). Please try again.”.

It’s most likely that the “Microsoft Error GeneralException” indicates a communication issue between the Lucidchart add-in and Microsoft Word when attempting to insert a diagram.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Ensure Microsoft Office is Up-to-Date.
    Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now to make sure you're running the latest version of Word.

  2. Clear Cached Credentials.
    Sign out of the Lucidchart add-in in Word, then close and reopen Word and sign back in. Sometimes refreshing the session resolves insertion issues.

  3. Try Inserting a Different Diagram.
    Test with a simpler or different Lucidchart diagram to rule out issues with a specific file.

  4. Use the Web App as a Workaround
    You can open your diagram in Lucidchart online, download it as a PNG or JPEG image, and insert it manually into your Word document.

  5. Check Internet Connection and Firewall Settings
    Occasionally, security settings or network restrictions can block the communication needed between Word and Lucidchart.
