Layers content highlight

Since a recent update in LucidChart, when you select a layer on top of the page, the components of that layer all get some transparency, while it used to be only the components outside of the selected layer.

It was very useful to highlight all the components of the selected layer to quickly identify which ones are part of the layer, which ones are not. Now they all look the same, it’s hard to distinguish.

Is it an expected behavior of the update or just a bug ?

I’d really like to go back to the previous behavior.

Thanks for providing that additional information @Archibald!

WebGL might be causing an issue with the graphics card on your computer. Can you try toggling WebGL off? This can be done by selecting View > Rendering > Use WebGL and un-selecting this option.

Additionally, could you try opening your document in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)? Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility. For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.

Can you provide the following below to help us further understand your request:  Steps you are taking leading up to the issue  screenshot of the issue you are seeing  In the meantime, you also have the option to manually modify the opacity of shapes on distinct layers to achieve visual differentiation.

Hi @Zuzia S, @Humas1985,

Here’s a screenshot. I had to mask several items, but as you can see, I’ve selected a layer, and all the shapes inside that layer have the “light” opacity the same way shapes outside that layer have.

I just figured out it’s not happening anymore when I refresh the page, until I change tab. So, this looks definitely like a bug.

I also have a whole lot of errors in the browser’s console.

Toggling WebGL off seems to fix the issue. However, since it’s activated by default, it requires to manually toggle the WebGL feature every time we’re opening a document, which is not ideal.

Also, I tried in Incognito mode, but the issue is still the same with webGL activated. Note that it happens to all users, and either in Google Chrome or MS Edge.

I’m currently working on a template document that will be used to create diagrams opened by hundreds of users in our company. Even if it’s not major, it will probably generate a lot of questions from our users.

Hi @Archibald, I am happy to hear that disabling WebGL is fixing the issue you are encountering! Unfortunately there isn't a way to change the default setting for WebGL to be disabled.

To clarify, documents will default to WebGL because it tends to greatly improve document performance when it's compatible with the computer's graphics card. If the issue disappears when you have WebGL disabled, this likely means there's an issue with this compatibility.

Some possible changes that could interfere with WebGL are using a new browser, getting an update to your browser, variation in your network connection, or using an external monitor. You may find this website helpful for checking if your browser supports WebGL. If the issue persists, I suggest making sure you're using the latest version of your browser on a stable internet connection.
