It seems that te text feature is not working as expected in Lucid chart. Specifically when I add a text box to the chart, and then I try to add lines or background, the options are not available. Moreover, in any box, when I select the text and try to move it to the upper side or to the sides, the text does not move. I’m attaching the screenshot for this:

unable to add lines to text box

This is an example that the text does not move when moving around the text inside a shape.

I keep clicking on the “Up” button, but the text stays in the bottom of the shape.

Hi @cfloressuazo

Can you give a try with the new board and see the behavior, simply i tired and it is completely working fine.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @cfloressuazo, thank you for posting in the Lucid Community! Similar to @Humas1985, I have also tested this function on my end and was unable to replicate your issue. Are you still having trouble with this?

Below are some troubleshooting steps I recommend to begin with:

  • Could you try opening your document in a private or incognito window to help us narrow down the potential cause? For help with opening an incognito window, please see this community post.
  • Could you also try connecting to a different network or disconnecting from your VPN (if applicable)? Sometimes account performance issues can be related to internet security/speed or browser issues. These steps will help us eliminate that possibility.

If those don’t resolve the problem, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • A screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output after reproducing the issue. You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J (if your computer is a Windows/Linux) OR Cmd+Opt+J (if your computer is a Mac).
  • A temporary Document Support PIN for this document. For more information on generating a Support PIN, check out this Help Center article.

Thank you for your help and patience as we work to resolve this! Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your answers, but I have tried with a new board, in an incognito window, and it is still not working. I’ve made a video so you can see what’s going on:

Thanks

Cesar

Hi @cfloressuazo, thank you for providing that video for additional context! What I am seeing from your video appears to be the expected behavior, as shown in my video below as well.

For text, I recommend reviewing our Add and style text in Lucidchart article from the Lucid Help Center to understand the editing and formatting features available.

If you would like to add a background, I would recommend using a shape as shown below. You can then add a fill color and format the shape as you’d like. You can type directly in the shape, or add a text box on top of the shape. I would recommend reading through the Add and customize shapes in Lucidchart article from the Lucid Help Center to understand how to format and modify shapes.

I hope this is helpful for you! If this does not answer your question or resolve your problem, can you please send a temporary Support PIN for this document? This will allow me to take a closer look at the issue you’re experiencing. For more information on generating a Support PIN, check out this Help Center article.

Hi!

I am experiencing the same issue reported by @cfloressuazo .

When I highlight a text box, the line color option is greyed-out (ie unselectable).

Prior to the major 2024 updates, I was able to add borders to text boxes without an issue.

Is this a bug?

Thank you in advance for your insight.

Hi @TimTheLucidChartUser, thank you for your post! I’m able to reproduce your issue on my end and I believe you have identified a bug. I have reported this to our development team. I apologize for any disruption this may cause, and I will update this thread with any new information about a fix.

In the meantime, a good workaround would be to use shapes as shown above if you’d like to add background color or borders around text.

Please follow along on this thread for updates, and post any additional questions or concerns below.

Thank you, @Ambar D !

I appreciate that you looked into the issue; and I appreciate your temporary solution.

I look forward to the resolution.

I love your product!

Hi @TimTheLucidChartUser, I am happy to help and I love hearing that you enjoy Lucid’s products! 🙌🏼

I will update this thread with any new information about a fix. In the meantime, feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. 🤝🏼

Hi @cfloressuazo and @TimTheLucidChartUser, I wanted to provide an update on this! The development team looked into this issue, and it does turn out that what you are experiencing with text is the intended behavior.

There is a slight difference between normal text and text blocks within Lucidchart. Text blocks do allow for line color and fill color, whereas normal text will not. As demonstrated by the video below, you will notice that the line color and fill color options are greyed out for the text, but become available for text blocks.

If you would like to add line color or fill color to your text, I suggest using a text block, located under the Standard Shapes shown below.

I hope this helps and I apologize for any confusion! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
