I have a fairly complex diagram with multiple layers. When I try export this as a 160dpi PNG, it works, though in the browser console I notice 403 errors about once a second for links to https://pdf-service-lucidchart-com.s3.amazonaws.com and the message “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 (Forbidden)” five times until it succeeds.

However, when I change this to 300dpi, the UI shows “An error occurred: Failed to download” and the browser console shows

“Error: Failed to export document.”

and

format: "png", reason: "No response while checking if external exists"}

I’m assuming this is a bug?

Hi @mw00

These issues often arise due to the high resolution demanding more resources, leading to timeouts or failures in fetching external resources. The 403 errors indicate that the server is rejecting requests, possibly due to expired or invalid authentication tokens - to learn more on the similar discussions - Error when exporting a Lucid document to a PNG 300PPI | Community

  • Although some users have achieved limited success through adjustments or diagram splitting, these are temporary fixes rather than long-term solutions

Next, we'll seek input from the internal team to determine the best course of action.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Thanks for the ping @Humas1985, and apologies for the trouble @mw00!

There are a few specific things worth noting when working with exporting your document:

  • Try the export in a Chrome Incognito browsing session. This often improves performance by clearing your cache and cookies and disabling your extensions.
  • Sometimes issues like this can be related to internet connection speed or network security. Please try the export again on another network, ensuring that you are on a strong, stable connection.
  • Is the page that you are trying to export a Master Page? If so, it will be omitted from the downloaded version of your document and you will need to convert it into a page before exporting. To do this, left-click on your Master Page tab and select "Convert to Page".

If the error message persists, can you send a screenshot of the issue and a support pin? This will allow me to take a closer look at the issue you’re experiencing. For more information on generating a Support PIN, check out this Help Center article.

Hi @mw00, thanks for your quick response. I’ve been able to reproduce the issues you described at both resolutions, and agree that this is a bug. I’ve gone ahead and reported this to our development team so that they can take a closer look at the issue. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience, and I’ll let you know via this thread as soon as I have an update.

In the meantime, can you confirm that you were ultimately able to download the file using the 160 PPI quality?

Yes, 160dpi works.

@mw00 Thanks for confirming. I recommend that and other file formats (PDF,  PNG) as workarounds in the meantime, but I’ll share word of a fix with you here as soon as I’m able.
