I’ve uploaded a custom font into a Lucidchart document, and any time I try to export a selection that uses that custom font, it fails.

I can export (using GUI, export selection) other portions from the same document without issue. If I export the document, and crop out any components that use that custom font, it exports fine. Otherwise, it fails.

Additionally, any time I try to copy a selection and then paste into another application (normally inserting an image export of the selection), it has the correct ratio, but is blank. Certain applications (teams, for one) show an error, which leads me to suspect that it is not actually correctly formatted.

I tried uploading the font files again. That did nothing.

I’ve tried this in multiple browsers, logged out, logged back in again, incognito sessions, etc.

This has been going on for multiple days. I really need to be able to export before the weekend - this needs to go in an executive presentation for Monday!

Hi @Braeden Dilger STV

Based on your description, it seems the issue is specific to the custom font you’ve uploaded. Here are a few steps we can take to resolve this:

  1. Check Font Compatibility - Some custom fonts may not be fully supported in Lucidchart’s export feature. To verify compatibility, you might try using another custom font or a standard font like Arial or Helvetica to see if the issue persists.

  2. Reupload Font Files - Even though you’ve already reuploaded the font, try removing it entirely from your font library in Lucidchart and reuploading it. Ensure the file format is either .ttf or .otf, as these are the supported formats.

  3. Test in a Blank Document - Create a new Lucidchart document, upload the same font, and test exporting a selection that uses it. This can help determine if the issue is tied to the font itself or something specific to your original document.

  4. Use a Workaround for Exporting - If the issue persists, consider temporarily converting the affected components to a supported font (e.g., Arial) for export. You can then replace the font in your presentation software to match the custom style.

If none of the above works, you may need to contact the team for assistance here:  Submit a request – Lucid.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Braeden Dilger STV, I am directing this to a private support ticket to get you taken care of. The team works through tickets in the order they are received, and you can expect a quick response to your email associated with your Lucid account. Please refer to that email for further correspondence.

Thank you @Ria S for your insight here as well.

Wanted to follow back up on this thread. For posterity, this issue was confirmed by the Lucid team, but it appears that it’s not going to be addressed any time soon.

Thanks for getting back to me with that additional information. I have reported this to our development team.

I recognize that this issue may hinder your workflow, and I want to be transparent so that you are able to move forward in the best way possible. Our development team has to rigorously prioritize what to work on based on the extent and criticality of the issue. Because of this, we do not have a timeline to provide regarding the fix. I apologize for any disruption this may cause, and I would like to do all I can to help you continue your work.

Seeing as there is no documentation of this limitation, here was my response. We’ll see if these items get addressed.

Thanks for letting me know. Since it sounds like it won't be any time soon, maybe someone can update the KB articles explaining how to add a custom font with some sort of disclaimer to the effect that this may occur?

It appears that if you have anything with a custom font on the page, you won't be able to export that page (no matter how you crop). Automatic (ctrl-c, ctrl-v) export also seems to be broken, regardless of what is copied out. The only way to export is to change the font family of those components and then select them before right-clicking and choosing 'export selection'.

Oh, and I can't remove the font I've uploaded. This functionality seems a bit half baked; it's one thing to push an item with issues, but quite another to push a feature with problems and then not allow people to turn off said erroring feature.

Hi @Braeden Dilger STV, thank you for returning to this thread and for providing that additional information. I’ve confirmed internally that this has been identified as a bug and it has been reported to our development team. I sincerely apologize for the disruption this causes, and I will update this thread with any new information about a fix

Thank you for your feedback regarding our documentation. I am personally ensuring that this is passed along to the correct team. If you would like to provide any additional feedback to the Add and style text in Lucidchart article, or other articles from the Lucid Help Center, please feel free to leave additional feedback through this form
