Custom Shapes / Pasted Items are 'Auto-Cropping'

Hi There,

I am working with LucidChart on a daily basis and I have recently discovered that when I use ‘Custom Shapes’ or Copy items into a Lucidchart, the shapes are ‘auto-cropping’. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue (i.e. removing whitespace); however, this auto-crop feature is cutting off portions of logos and text so every time I use the shape, I need to select the image, and then ‘un-crop’ the image.

Is there a way to turn off this functionality to stop LucidChart from ‘autocropping’ these Custom Shapes / Pasted items?

Thanks,

C

Good morning @Chris C21,

I checked with our QA and they weren’t able to reproduce this same issue, and where toggling webGL didn’t work, they thought maybe you need to reset your graphics driver for it to behave correctly?  Depending on if you are on a Windows or Mac, you can try the following to see if that resolves it.

Windows: “Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B”
Mac: Restart the whole computer

Hi @Chris C21

There is no explicit setting to disable, you may have to try other hacks to simplify the situation.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @Chris C21

Thanks for posting in the community! Also thanks @Humas1985 for your response. WebGL might be causing an issue with the graphics card on your computer. Can you try toggling WebGL off? This can be done by going to View > Use WebGL and un-selecting this option.

If this does not solve the issue, can you please provide a screenshot of the issue you are seeing?

Hi @ssahagun
I tried toggling WebGL on/off - unfortunately this doesn’t impact how the images are auto-cropped when pasted and/or pulled from a custom shapes library.

I have attached some screenshots here; I used the LucidChart Logo as an example as it has a very similar layout to the application I am using. When pasted in, the image is automatically cropped; however, you can double click the image and ‘un-crop’ it back to the original image.

Good morning @Chris C21

I am passing this along to the QA on the team that owns this feature. I feel that there is room for improvement here, and will work with them to find out more and what we can do to resolve this. I will follow up here when I have more information. Thank you for sharing your feedback and for the screenshots.

I am also experiencing this problem on a Mac. I started with a blank diagram. Imported a PNG image, saved and closed. When the diagram is re-opened, the image is now cropped.

Good morning @phil_hamilton,

Have you tried what I recommended earlier to reset your graphics driver? Please let me know if that does not resolve the issue.

Windows: “Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B”
Mac: Restart the whole computer

Hi @phil_hamilton ,

Can you confirm if you tried restarting your computer to resolve the issue?

Thanks!

I did not reboot my computer. I added whitespace to images to account for the cropping. The app crops out the whitespace and is the size I need.

@phil_hamilton Thanks for providing your work-around! In the future, rebooting your computer may solve the issue you were seeing.

Thanks!
