Can I open documents in a new tab?

When viewing My Documents, if I opened a document it used to open in a new tab. Great! I usually have multiple documents open at once.

Now, it opens in the same browser tab, so I have to open a new tab, go to Lucid, choose another document, and repeat.

It’s not possible to right click and open in a new tab, as this functionality is disabled in the web app.

I can’t see an open in the settings which controls this.

Is there a way to get this functionality back?

Hi @ibluy, we updated the default behavior to open in the same tab and decreased the loading time, but you should still be able to right click and open in a new tab or click the three-dot menu and open in a new tab. That is what the option I’m highlighting in this image does. Is that not working for you?

It looks like this got broken again recently (last week), and now documents open up in new tabs/browser windows instead of the downloaded borderless web browser window sub-app.

Any word on a fix for this?  I’d like to not have more tabs open when I click a document to open it (like it did prior to last Thursday (7-23-2028).

Hi @User_Name,

Thank you for posting in this thread and I sincerely apologize for the delay. Thank you so much for flagging this and I’m really sorry to hear it's causing friction with your workflow. It sounds like something may have shifted recently with how documents are opening for you.

Just to make sure we can look into this properly, a couple of quick questions:

  • What browser and operating system are you on?
  • Are you opening docs from within a specific app or integration (like the Lucid desktop app or a third-party tool)?
  • Does this happen with all documents, or just certain types (Lucidchart vs. Lucidspark)?
  • Are you opening docs from the "My Documents" home page, or from somewhere else (like a shared folder or a link)?

Would you mind attempting the following steps to narrow down the cause of the issue you’re experiencing:

  • Try clearing browser cache/cookies and see if the behavior changes
  • Try a different browser to see if it's browser-specific
  • Check if any browser extensions (especially tab managers or popup blockers) might be interfering
  • Try logging out and back in

Please let me know if the following steps above worked for you! Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

WIndows 10, Windows 11
Island
Chrome

MS Edge

  • Are you opening docs from within a specific app or integration (like the Lucid desktop app or a third-party tool)?

No.  We are opening from the Lucid webpage using the borderless “advanced web site” browser window.

W have been waiting for the application version of this webpage to be released.  Our sales and support reps doesn’t believe that an application is planned or being developed.  An application would be wonderful and prevent us from having to have 50-150 web browser windows open (causing catastrophic system performance issues).

  • Does this happen with all documents, or just certain types (Lucidchart vs. Lucidspark)?

Yes, all Lucid chart webpages (“documents”)

  • Are you opening docs from the "My Documents" home page, or from somewhere else (like a shared folder or a link)?

Yes.  Links to the webpage opens it in any open web browser window like any normal URL.  Opening from the “My Documents” webpage also opens it in another web browser window.

No, this has been ongoing for about 2 weeks, and none of the normal webpage loading issue resolution solutions work.

This started occurring the same day/time the “generate with AI” box appeared on the lucid homepage.  If there’s a trick to getting that to not appear would be a great thing to know learn.  And generally how to get the webpage to load the base webpage instead of “recommending documents” would be wonderful.  All the extra clicks to navigate to where you tried to navigate to is annoying.  Webpages guessing where their users wanted to browse to is stupid; just display what we asked instead of guessing “on our behalf”.  It’s counter productive, annoying and frustrating when trying to get stuff done.

Thank you,

Hi @User_Name,

Thank you for your response in this thread and for providing all this detail. It’s incredibly helpful in narrowing down the root cause!

Based on everything you've shared, I believe this may be a bug on our end, and I want to dig in a little further before escalating. Would you mind sharing a temporary Document Support PIN for one of the affected documents? This will help me take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff.

You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this Lucid Help Center article: Generate a Lucid Support PIN.

Thanks in advance for your help and patience while I look into this!
