Automatic sync issue between Excel and Lucidchart

Hi community,

maybe someone here can help me.

I currently have an Excel file connected to a Lucidchart diagram. Both the Excel file and the Lucidchart document are used collaboratively by multiple teams.

The problem is:
The data only synchronizes when I personally open both the Excel file and the Lucidchart board. If I don’t do this, changes made by other team members are not reflected. This means I have to open the Excel and the Lucidchart document every day just to trigger the sync.

Is there any way to have the data synchronize automatically in the background, or without having to manually open both files?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards
Melanie

Hi @Melanie, thank you for sharing that information and sorry for the delay! To confirm, are you simply importing using an Excel (.xlsx) file or did you link from Microsoft 365 Excel? If you are using M365, could you please check what you have enabled for the data sync settings? Please see this Help Center article for some steps on how to check this.

With data linked from Excel via Microsoft 365, you can determine how your data is synced between Excel and Lucid: manually, automatically one-way from Excel to Lucid, or automatically both ways.

Please let me know if this is not the case for you, or if you have any questions!

Hi @Melanie, thank you for posting in the community. To confirm, do all your collaborators have edit access to both the Lucidchart document and the linked Excel file? Is this happening to a specific document or any document that has dataset imported?

Thanks for your help and patience! Please let us know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Hi @Leianne C, yes, all involved users have access to both the Excel file and the Lucidchart document. The issue actually occurs on all boards that I have created and linked.

Hi @Melanie, thank you for sharing that information. If possible, could you please ask one of your collaborators to try import an Excel file in a new blank document and see if the same issue happens for them - where they are the only ones who can update the data?

If the issue persists, could you please share a temporary Document Support PIN for this document? This will help me take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff. You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this Help Center article

Thanks for your help and patience. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi @Leianne C,

I tested this together with a colleague. She created her own Excel file, linked it to a Lucid board, and shared it with me with edit permissions. After that, she closed both documents. I then added a value in the Excel file, but it did not sync to Lucid. The data only synchronizes again when she opens both files.

Here is the support PIN: duOcYHUfYHtXXzyaMI1s86UGP1eCGUl0Q0166429077
Thanks a lot for looking into this.
