Shadow is enabled by default whenever you add a text box.  The large screenshot below shows how the text and the shadow kinda merge together when zoomed out to a level where the text should be readable, but the shadow makes it hard to read.  This is especially problematic for users with weaker eyesight - probably many users over 40.

Workaround 1: every time you add a text box, turn off shadow by selecting the text box, selecting the shape options, clicking the shadow dropdown, and turning off shadow (4 clicks! every time!  it gets very annoying for a simple configuration option that should be possible to change its default)

Workaround 2: follow workaround 1 the first time, then copy paste that text box and edit every time you want to add a new one.  (doesn’t work well across documents - you have to have both open, and lucid is SLOW to open anything; you can’t copy/paste into the page, but you have to copy paste the old text box, double click on it, go to the other window, copy, go back to lucid, paste, click somewhere else on teh page to deselect the text box / get out of edit mode - 6 extra steps instead of 4!  this is worse!)

Requested Fix: Create a configuration setting that allows users to individaully decide if they want to disable shadow by default, instead of forcing an (unintentionally) age-discriminatory behavior on all users.

Requested additional fix: Make the default “no shadow” like nearly every other product seems to do, instead of forcing an (unintentionally) age-discriminatory default on all users.

Hi,

I think the show option is ON in your canvas when you are starting to add the text box. That is why every new text box is inheriting the setting. “Without selecting anything in the canvas (or explicitly deselecting)”, change the Shadow setting to off. Then any subsequent text box will have shadow off unless you select a particular one and turn it on. See screenshot below

By the way, if you have already added a lot of text boxes and they all have shadows in them and you want to remove the shadow effect from all of them , there is an easy way for that also. Select any one of the text boxes, got to Select from Menu, from the drop down choose “Shapes with Same”, and then “Shape type”. This will select all of your text boxes. Now simply change the Shadow setting once and that will apply to all of them. In fact whatever formatting change you do will apply to all the text boxes. I find this feature to be very useful - works for different shape types and even lines.

However, if you are starting a new diagram/ canvas then my previous reply is better for you.

Hope this helps
