Question

New "User Interface" - all sorts of broken

Looks like “Lucid Chart” got another “face lift” to remove functionality that will take months to learn how someone else thinks.

The downloadable “application” doesn’t open documents any more (again).  When trying to open a document, the document won’t open, because it attempts to open it in a pop up window unless browsing inside a web browser window.  This was a problem about 6-12 months ago, and was stealth fixed (no announcement of it being broken, no announcement of it being fixed….it just magically started working again after it was reported).  it needs stealth fixing again.

Shape names have disappeared in the shape library list.  Cannot see what the shape name is, only the graphic for it.  Makes it impossible to figure out which shape of the 1000’s of shapes that hundreds have the same or similar graphic to them that is the shape is desired to use.

The Shape library tool cannot be directly accessed.  You have to “Search for shapes”, instead of just opening the shape library and selecting the shape library you want to use.  Adding 2-3 additional steps to find the shapes in your library is counter productive.  This is similar to having to finding the menu to open the menus to open the File (or other) menu.  Speaking of which….

The File menu is STILL missing/hidden.  Having menus easily accessible again would be fantastic.  Having to find the menu of menus to find the menus under a graphic object is still insane.

The “Classic Editor” option/name gives the impression that the barely usable UI that existed prior to the “new” UI will be going away.  It was already difficult enough to find normal functions in the broken non-classic editor after the last set of changes.

If the goal to cause people to spend more time browsing the website to find the tool/function than they do using the tool/function, congratulations.  The new UI requires hours of hunting and poking around inside the UI to find out where someone hid it in this new iteration of your website.

Hi @User_Name, thank you for your detailed feedback about the new Lucidchart editor. We’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. I am sharing your post here directly to our product teams working on the new editor.

Lucidchart iOS Mobile App-

Thank you for your report! I first suggest trying to uninstall and reinstall the application on your device, and then logging back in again. This often clears up many performance issues.

Would you also be willing to share the type of device, operating system version, and version of the Lucidchart app that you are working from? That’ll help us take a closer look.

Shape names disappearing in the shape library list-

Would you mind providing me with a screenshot of what you see on your end? Are you hoping to see the name of shapes while searching or while scrolling through the shapes?

Please let me know if I’m misunderstanding the request. In the screenshot below, you’ll see the name of each shape library in the red box. The name of individual shapes can be seen by hovering over the shape, shown by the green box. You’ll see this in both the new Lucidchart editor and classic editor in the screenshots below-

Shape library tool access -

Thank you for your feedback! I recommend getting into shape libraries with the steps below:

  1. In the left document tools panel, select Search shapes and tools. Alternatively, select the search icon from the toolbar.
  2. Select Shapes.
  3. Search or browse directly in the left panel to find your shape library. Alternatively, select Browse all shapes at the bottom.
  4. You can add your desired shape library to your document tools left panel, so that it’s easily available.

Another option as a workaround is adding the custom shape libraries tool (as described here) to your document tools or toolbar. You’ll be able to select that custom shape libraries button to open up the shape library popup.

File menu -

Thank you for the feedback here as well! For anyone who may come across this post looking for the file menu, I did want to show how to access it below in both the new and classic editor experience.

Thank you again for being part of the feedback process here at Lucid!
