New editor redesign breaks core features

Why is it that when companies have a solid product that works fine exactly the way it is, they decide to completely revamp it in a way that renders the product virtually un-usable? That’s exactly what’s happened here. Just a couple weeks ago, we were so happy you guys finally added “Select/Deselect All” to SmartFields picklists and now that’s not included in this “improved” editor. Honestly, where even is the smartfields information now? It’s absolutely nowhere to be found (at least not easily.. and we don’t have time to go through this meticulously ourselves).  Where’s the Salesforce data mapping lists? How can we add Salesforce data as a shape with all the info in the new editor that we’ve been able to do so in the past?

This is horrible. Plain and Simple. Horrible.

Hi @MSmidowicz ,

Thank you for the honest feedback, and I’m sorry the new editor disrupted your workflow. We just shipped an update that brings back the Salesforce functionality you were missing:

  • On a blank/new document: you can search for “Salesforce” (or related keywords) to find the integration and start the import
  • On templated documents created from Salesforce, or with imported Salesforce data: you should see "Salesforce account map" show up under Tools in use in the left panel. Clicking it opens an experience similar to what you’re used to in classic Lucidchart.

With the shapes created from the Salesforce account map tool, picklist editing with sync back to Salesforce, select/deselect all, and field layout control should also all be available.

Would you give it a try and tell me whether it gets your workflow back?

Hi @MSmidowicz, thanks for posting in the next generation space of the Lucid Community! I’m sorry to hear about your experience regarding the Salesforce Smart Fields list and appreciate your feedback. I am checking your request internally and will update here once I have more information.

In the meantime, if you need to access your Smart fields information, you can change your editor back to “Classic Editor”. To learn how to switch between the editors, please check out the Can I switch back to the classic editor experience? section of this community post.

Thank you again for sharing about your experience. If you have any other questions or feedback in the meantime, feel free to comment below or create a new post in this community space.

We found where the Salesforce Data is…. it’s under “Data Linking”.  We’re not sure if this is something we can internally customize to our needs. For example, in the classic editor, we can integrate picklists on a Salesforce account to be selectable directly in lucidchart. If we change the selected option in the picklist in Lucidchart, it also changes it on the record in salesforce (vice versa). With the new editor, it seems as if the data set is informational only and not able to be edited through picklists.

Another function that is missing (or is not easily found) in the new editor is being able to change how the information is shown. In the classic editor, there is an invisible break line between Field Title and Fields. We could move the position of the break line to adjust the formatting of the words in the Fields within the shape.

In the new editor, we do see the Select All/Deselect All function on shapes that are already on the diagram. For new shapes, there is no Select All/Deselect All function  (again, it’s either missing or is not easily identifiable).

If these issues are not fixed by internal customization/coding on our end and this is how you are planning to rollout the new editor, then it’s completely unacceptable. Someone else said it perfectly in another post here “It’s going to take months to figure out how someone else thinks”. We don’t have time to mess about trying to figure out why someone at Lucidchart thought this was a good idea.

Saying that we can switch back to the Classic Editor is misleading. Sure, we can select to go back, but everytime I open Lucidchart, it now defaults to the new editor and I have to manually switch to classic. This is beyond frustrating.

@Nanyan Yes, we see the update and appreciate you guys making the effort. It’s a step in the right direction. This update will allow us to use Lucidchart as we have in the past with the new editor. However, it’s still an additional click.

In Classic editor, The Salesforce Account Map dropdown would be visible on the left menu column. Contacts, Clients, and other related Salesforce fields would be right there for us to simply drag over to the lucidchart. In the new editor we have to click on “salesforce account map” just to get to those salesforce fields. Am I being pedantic? Most likely, but updates are supposed to improve the user experience, not create additional clicks (even if it’s just one).

The formatting portion being moved from the top to the right isn’t ideal. Perhaps it’ll come easier with more time in the new editor, however, having the option to choose between the old top menu bar and the new right menu column would be fantastic.

@Nanyan Wanted to provide more feedback as we become familiar with this new editor. Once again, we are being forced to navigate through additional clicks to perform our jobs. In the classic Editor, to add shape templates to the menu bar, it was 4 clicks

1) More Shapes Button
2) Shared with me
3) Checkbox for the shape template to use
4) Use selected Shapes.

In the new editor it’s 6…

1) Search Shapes and Tools
2) Create from Data
3) Shapes
4) Shared with me
5) Checkbox for the shape template to use
6) Use Selected Shapes

I’m not sure what your testing and approval process is, but as a consumer… adding additional clicks should automatically fail it as an “updated” and “Improved” experience for the user. This is not the first time I’ve had to voice my opinion on this issue happening with Lucidchart when your company decides to randomly update it’s product. I know there are many others that have voiced the same opinion. Please stop trying to hide the usable functions of this product under menus and submenus. 2 extra clicks in this one section equates to about 150 extra clicks per day for my small team based on our productivity. That doesn’t take into account the extra click that is now needed to get to the Salesforce data that used to be right in front of us in the classic editor.

There’s an issue with the line formatting. If you are just in the document in general, the line formatting information is grouped together. (See screenshot below).

But, if you click on an actual line already in the document, that is not the case… (See Below)

You can imagine my confusion when I went to go change the line type and couldn’t see it in the line formatting grouping. How is this considered efficient? Having to remember that the connector type is in 2 different places depending on what you’re clicked on is not an improvement to the user experience. (I hope you can see a pattern developing here...)
