I would like to move the text "Receiving drum 50 m3" from under the object to beside the object.
Would you please teach me?
Thank you very much

Hi there
Thanks for reaching out to the Lucid community. There is no way to move the text from under a P&ID object to the side of it. However you can work around this by deleting out the text under the shape (so that it is empty) and then by creating a text box placing it to the side of the object and grouping them together. Once they are grouped the text and the shape will move and respond as one. Hope this helps!
I would like to see this feature implemented as well. It's very time consuming to create and group text boxes onto objects that way.
Hi Jason thanks for continuing this thread. We appreciate your feedback and have logged it to share with our development team - they'll use this information when prioritizing improvements to the product! Please let me know if you have any additional questions I can assist with!
+1 Used to diagrams.net where they had this implemented in the text area and/or with a little yellow anchor to let you move the text around and it's great.
@samuel c102 Thank you for sharing your feedback and your experience here - we're grateful for this context that will help our development team understand how to make working in Lucidchart better!
I'll throw my request for this feature in as well. In draw.io for example the text can be positioned outside the shapes at the top right bottom and left as well as different alignments within those positions.
Hi @patrick p101 thanks for submitting a request and sharing your ideas on this - we really appreciate it! I'd also like to share a workaround inspired by this community post where a user shared a great tip on how to add connection points to a shape.
This tip may also be useful for avoiding lines overlapping with text under shapes. To do this you can add a tiny shape under the text and set the line and fill colour to transparent. After this you can group this shape together with the original object. This way lines will connect to the small shape and will not overlap with the text. I've also attached a screenshot demonstrating this!
I hope this information helps. Feel free to comment in this thread if you have any additional questions about this!
+1 for this feature. I'm accustomed to draw.io and Viso which has better text placement capabilities. Those programs also enable users to set the exact padding.
Mark thanks for continuing this thread and for the additional details of extra text padding. I've logged your request - we highly value your feedback here!
+1. Locking the text into a specific location seems elementary.
Thanks for voicing your support for this Kellen. We've logged your feedback!
+1. For this as well I thought I was missing something obvious but it turns out it was Lucid missing it instead.
Thanks for contributing your feedback Andersen! Feel free to share your thoughts on this feature and any other ideas you have in the thread. Thank you!
Add me to the list of people wanting this feature. It has been 4 years since the idea was first logged. Is there any prioritisation of customer feedback ideas?
Thank you for the link Addie H - that blind submission form isn’t very useful to us as it doesn’t give us a chance to focus our interest on popular features.
We would really prefer a feature list with priority and popularity rankings that we can all see. I can cite a few potential sass replacements using these options who are catching up to Lucid **very quickly.
I won’t name them here but the issues for me while minor can emerge as major differentiators.
I have to maintain dozens of very complicated diagrams and text placement is critical when choosing artefact locations. Something like this small feature request would become the deal maker for me as my favourite offline graphing tool does allow this. I’m waiting for my online tool to support it :)
Hey Jason & Josh
Thank you both for voicing your concerns here -- this is highly important to us as the insight into your experience with our processes helps us make process changes in the future. We hope that you will continue to share your thoughts with us and stay tuned for improvements to this experience in the near future.
I want to additionally thank you for expanding on what would be impactful for PI&D functionality as well as your specific use case -- this detail is so helpful and I've gone ahead and I've noted it alongside other PI&D feedback.
Please continue to reach out in the Lucid Community with any other thoughts or ideas you may have this information is invaluable. Firm handshakes
... + 1 - You should be able to anchor and move in the same way as we can with Line text.

Thank you both for sharing your thoughts here -- I have forwarded this information along to our Dev Team! Your feedback is a huge part of what makes Lucid so great and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we can be even better!
Cheers and firm handshakes
+1 for the feature
Hi Adela
Thanks for adding your vote and helping promote this idea to our development team. Our product team highly values our users' input when prioritizing improvements to Lucid and the more people request this the more likely it is to be prioritized and built out. Thanks!
I've previously used Create.ly for personal use and that allowed me to position the shape text in a range of set locations e.g. outside top left below etc.
It seems such an obvious feature I am really surprised Lucidchart a supposedly more complex enterprise grade tool doesn't allow this.
Hi! We submitted the feature request some time ago but as this is something essential to document formatting I wanted to highlight where it is well implemented.

There are options to do the following
This is proving exactly what we need but it's in another product. We'll update our feature request.
Hi Nathan and Jason thanks for your comments - the detail about what you'd like to see in this experience is very helpful!
You're very welcome! Thank you for being responsive to suggestions.
