In Create.ly you can select a shape e.g. a rectangle then open the settings and choose from a visual layout where the shape text should be positioned. Internally to the shape this is represented by a 3x3 grid of positions plus three positions along the outside of each edge.

Example: https://imgur.com/KSSGYFY

This is really useful when the shape is going to be a container of other shapes e.g. a rectangle representing the boundary of a group of other shapes typically you want the associated text somewhere outside top or top left of the shape not in the middle.

Sharing good news on behalf of @Gordon, one of our engineers - this is now live! Simply drag the text box around the shape to change its position. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

@Micah @Gordon - Do we have to do something to activate this?  I’ve tried on multiple shapes and i’m still unable to get this to work.

Is it rolled out for all users yet?

Could you let me know what kind of shapes you were trying to use? We added the ability to many different libraries, but there is a chance that we missed a few.

@Micah @Gordon Hi There,  I was facing the same issue with not being able to move the text, but seem to have figured out why.

If the shape is rotated then the default text can no longer be moved to other postions.

It would also be good if the shape is rotated the text rotation changed as well, we can always adjust this afterwards but in most cases I doubt I would need to if this was also implemented.

P.S. It would be great if the router shape in “Basic Networking Shapes” was called wireless router and there was another version with the wireless antenna removed that was called router, I have had so many people call out designs saying why have we specified a wireless router…. to which I have to say oh sorry lucid doesn’t have a basic router only shape…

Hi @texmex, thank you for providing that detailed feedback about what you’d like to see! I can understand why having the ability to move the text box around a shape that is rotated + rotating the text itself would both be helpful. I certainly see what you’re saying here! I am passing along this feedback to @Gordon and our product teams.

If you’d like to leave additional feedback about that the router shape and Basic Networking Shapes shape library, I recommend creating a new idea with details of what you’d like to see. That helps to ensure your idea gets the visibility it deserves- allowing other users to upvote and leave comments, and helping the relevant product team see your feedback!

Our product teams continuously use comments just like yours as they continue to research enhancements and new features. Thanks again for being part of the feedback process!

Hi @texmex, happy to let you know that your feedback was shared directly with our product team and they’ve released another update!

You should now be able to rotate your shape, while moving the text around the shape. Thanks again for sharing your feedback, and don’t hesitate to create a new idea if you have further product feedback.
