I am trying to sort of generate a topology, that shows where electrical components are placed in a vehicle. I would like to use table data like excel file or similar, that holds the Name of the component and the x and y coordinates, then in some way automatically place/create them based on the table data. Is this possible somehow?

Hi @OlofN

To get started,

  • First, prepare your Excel file by ensuring it has columns for component name, x coordinates, and y coordinates.
  • Next, import your data into Lucidchart by opening your document, clicking the Data Panel icon, and selecting "Link Data" and then "Import Your Data" with Excel as the file type.
  • After uploading, map your data to shapes by dragging and dropping rows onto the canvas, allowing Lucidchart to place them according to the coordinates.
  • Finally, adjust and customize shapes as needed, and refresh the data set to update the diagram automatically if changes occur.

This process enables you to create an accurate and dynamic structure based on your Excel data.

Please refer to the help article below which will guide you to understand the process to the fullest.

Hello Humas, thank you for your answer. But this is not really what i am after. I see now i might need to clarify a bit what i want to accomplish:

Once the excel table is uploaded with X and Y coordinates i want lucidchart to create objects ( like a circle or rectangle ) on these coordinates, with names written in these boxes also taken from this excel table.

I am not after adding data to the objects, rather creating the objects based on the data. I don’t know if this is possible in the tool?

Hi @OlofN, thanks for posting in the Lucid Community! And thanks @Humas1985 for sharing that information!

I would recommend referring to our  Process Diagram Import article from the Lucid Help Center, as this provides information on how data needs to be formatted in order for Lucid to create generate a digram from your data and what functionality is currently supported. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks Amelia W. This was more helpful but still doesn’t solve my problem unfortunately. But from all information i have gathered so far, Lucidcharts is not capable (yet at least) to perform the actions i am after. Thanks for support.
