My team is loving the Jira <> Lucid integration with Timelines! Here’s my conundrum:

  • Most of our project managers draft the project plan in Lucid, and then want it to move over to Jira
  • They don’t know (yet) to map the integration fields before they start using the timeline, so they’re moving Jira cards around without tying the cards back to start/end dates in Jira
  • If I map the start/end date fields later, the dates that were set up in Lucid go away! So they lose all of their hard work, rather than the dates being pushed to Jira

My basic requirements could be solved in a few ways (that I can think of)

  • “Wait! Before you can use Jira cards on the timeline, please map your jira fields!” as an error message that shows when someone tries to drag a Jira card on the page, and maybe a “show me how” link that points them to the Jira integration/settings button
  • A system-wide map between my Lucid instance and a particular Jira instance, that could be edited outside of the context of a board
  • If a timeline is already in use, ask whether the person would like to overwrite the dates currently in Jira, or fetch dates from Jira when the mapping is set up

I’m hoping that there’s just a setting somewhere that I haven’t seen, but if not this would be incredibly helpful for our teams, and would drive adoption of Timelines with Jira.
