Hi,

I have a custom shape shown below, it doesn't allow me to flip it (the options are greyed out).

Hi,

When I rotate a custom shape, it doesn’t rotate as a whole. Please help. Thanks!

Hi @harry, thank you for posting! Just to confirm, was this custom shape created within Lucid or an uploaded shape?

If the custom shape contains a line from lucid, it may be the reason why you are not able to flip it as it’s not possible to flip lines this way.

If that is not the case, would you mind sharing creating a blank document with the custom shape in question and sharing the support PIN for it? This will allow me to take a closer look at the issue you’re experiencing. For more information on generating a Support PIN, check out this Help Center article.

Thanks for your help and patience! Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Leianne,

Yes, it is generated using lines from Lucid. Is this a limitation of Lucid or you have a workaround? I know that similar shapes in your library can be flipped or rotated without issue.

Hi @harry, thank you for following up with that confirmation! The shapes in the shape library are created specifically for the library and while appear to include lines/arrows, it behaves differently to the lines/arrows we use in the editor.

Unfortunately, flipping or rotating is not supported for lines, however, as a workaround, you can try creating the shape using the horizontal and vertical divider lines and triangles from the geometric shapes library to recreate the custom shape. I’ve attached an example screenshot below:

Once the shape is created, you can group all the elements together by dragging a selection box over the shape > right-click > group.

This will allow you to move the shape together and easily rotate it like so:

I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Hi @Leianne C ,

Thanks for the tip. It does rotate well, but flipping is still an issue. The horizontal and vertical flipping buttons are clickable. But there is nothing flipped with the horizontal flipping button; with the vertical flipping button,  nothing flipped except the “arrow”, which is actually horizontally flipped.

Hi @harry, thank you for giving that a try. I was able to reproduce the behaviour you described. It looks like the ‘arrow’ appears to be flipped horizontally because it’s been rotated to that position.

Unfortunately, the option to flip lines and shapes this way isn’t currently supported in Lucid. As a workaround, I would recommend manually creating the ‘flipped’ version and add it to a custom shape library. This will allow you to quickly access all your custom shapes.

For more information, please check out this Shape libraries in Lucidchart article from the Lucid Help Center.

Hi @Leianne C,

Thanks for the help. Maybe there is a way to do it? The one in the Transistor library can be flipped nicely.

Also please kindly let me know how to avoid rounded corers of a triangle.

Hi @harry, my apologies for the delayed response! The shapes available in Lucid’s shape libraries are created specifically for the library and behave differently to custom shapes created using existing lines and shapes in the editor.

I understand this is an additional step however, creating a separate custom shape for the flipped version and adding it to a custom shape library is currently the best workaround for this.

For the rounded corners of triangles, you can change it by selecting the shape and setting the ‘Rounded’ option to ‘0 px’ in the ‘Shape Options’ menu. I’ve attached an example screenshot of this:

Thank you for your understanding and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions!
