How can I set custom text styling to shapes in my Lucid custom shapes library?

In my custom shape library, I’ve created shapes with textareas. I would like that text size to be set to auto and I would like the text to always be horizontal even if the shape is rotated - similar to a line’s text behavior. How can I make those things happen?

@mlang90 there are a few different ways you can achieve what you desire: set shape/layout style, create a master page, or add conditional formatting.

Set shape/layout style (see under Layout Format and Style): https://help.lucid.co/hc/en-us/articles/16463330693268-Create-an-org-chart#learn-lucidchart-org-chart-basics

Create a master page: https://help.lucid.co/hc/en-us/articles/14400170727700-Create-a-master-page-in-Lucidchart

Add conditional formatting: https://help.lucid.co/hc/en-us/articles/16293796201108-Add-conditional-formatting-in-Lucidchart

Hope that helps!

Thanks for helping. When I looked through those links I couldn’t find any places to change the size or rotation of the text within a custom shape. I’ve tried using “bounds” to adjust the rotation but I can’t figure out the formula to determine the shape’s rotation so I can change the text’s rotation to offset it.

Hi @mlang90, thank you for posting in the community! Unfortunately, this isn’t currently an easy way to do this in Lucid, but we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products.

As a workaround, you could use grouped shapes to create your custom shapes with text areas. This will allow you to keep the text area separate from the shape itself, and allow you to rotate the shape while the text is still horizontal.

If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post:

Thank you for sharing your feedback and ideas in the community. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks @Leianne C. As far as use case, I’m laying out network and security equipment on floor plans. I want to rotate my camera shapes to show where the camera is pointing but I would like to keep the text un-rotated so the plans are easier to read. I’ll try grouping for now. Thank you!
