Hi Lucid Team,

We’re setting up Qualitize for document permissions and version control and would like to export a Lucidchart as a raw lucidchart file so we can upload it to Salesforce Qualityze (EQMS) (alongside a PDF export).

What we need is a diagraming tool that can export the raw file in a lossless format that is re-importable. Can we do this with the current version of Lucidchart? We also need to export as a PDF but I see this is already a feature.

Thanks,

Tobin

Hi @tobinvow

Lucidchart does not currently provide a direct option to export files in a raw, re-importable format such as XML or JSON, which would allow for the entire diagram to be represented in a plain-text format.

You can try the other options. For instance, Lucidchart enables the download of documents in its native .lucid format, which, while not a plain-text format, can be re-imported into Lucidchart and maintains the diagram's structure, styles, and data.

Additionally, Lucidchart offers its own version history feature, allowing for version control and the ability to revert to previous versions within the platform. The platform also supports exporting to various formats, including PDF, PNG, SVG, and other image formats.

While these options do not meet the requirement for a raw, re-importable format, downloading the .lucid file is the closest alternative Lucidchart currently offers, which can then be manually re-imported as needed.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @Humas1985 ,

Thanks for replying!

Sorry if I miss-communicated but the .lucid is exactly what I’m looking for! How can I download one? I’ve explored the UI and the community forums and haven’t found anything.

Thanks, Tobin

Hi @Humas1985,

My understanding is that those instructions explain how to backing up all charts into a single .LAF file and requires a premium membership. I just want to have a single file that stores a single chart. Getting a premium membership may be an option if this functionality exists.

Thanks,

Tobin

Hi @tobinvow

Your understanding is right, will give a try by taking this to the internal team to see if we can find an easy alternative.

I will work on this in the background and will keep you posted.

Best Regards

Hi @tobinvow, I’m happy to help here! You are correct, our Backup/Restore functionality is currently for downloading all of your documents within a given location to a single .laf file. At this time, there is not a way to select a single document to export to an .laf file. However, hypothetically, if you only had one document in your My Documents menu, the .laf file would only contain that single document.

I understand that this feature is a bit more limited than what you’re describing, but we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Also, thank you @Humas1985 for sharing all of this information!

Hi @Humas1985 and @Amelia W ,

Thanks for the replies!

Ahh okay that would be difficult. There are multiple charts that people need to work on concurrently so that’s not really feasible to only export one at a time.

Thanks though,

Tobin
