In tools like Miro and Excalidraw, you can copy selected elements from the whiteboard directly to the clipboard as images (for example PNG or SVG), also with a transparent background. This makes the workflow much easier when creating material for multiple platforms where you want to reuse visuals created in Lucid.

In comparison, exporting to an image file, opening that file, copying its contents, and then pasting it into the target platform is not a lean workflow. It is slower, breaks momentum, and results in a large number of unnecessary files that are only needed temporarily for the copy-paste operation.

Unofficial pro tip while waiting:

  1. Copy area in Lucid

  2. Paste into PowerPoint (✨ magically becomes an image ✨)

  3. Copy from PowerPoint and paste wherever

Not saying this is ideal… but it does work 😬

@Simo Thanks for sharing this idea! My team is looking into this, and I’d love to know your thoughts on this question:

In your ideal solution, how would you expect to copy a selection as a png? A standard copy/paste like in your workaround through PowerPoint but working across other platforms, a separate command specifically for copying as a png, or something else entirely?

Thanks for asking @kated ! In my mind ideal solution would be to have just one copy-command but I don’t mind if it is a separate command e.g. “Copy to clipboard as PNG”. This would cover 90% of my needs.

For the rest 10% of my needs it would be great if ”Export selection” would open a modal. Modal would enable the following decisions in priority order:

  1. Export format (e.g. PNG, SVG)
  2. Decision if image should be stored as file or placed to clipboard
  3. Background transparency
  4. Scale/quality that affects the size of the picture
