I need to be able to copy and paste in mind map. I currently try to copy and paste and it pastes the whole mind map not the highlighted section.

October 7, 2025

Hi all,

We have recently released the ability to copy and paste mind map subtrees as a new mind map on the canvas. We have not implemented the ability to copy and paste from a mind map to another mind map (which I believe is what @WZQN75 is looking for here). If anyone would like this functionality, please let me know so that we can prioritize it according to the need.

Thanks!

Hi @jeremywilley, thanks for your post. Can you please clarify what you’re trying to do? If you’re willing to share a screenshot of your mind map and the portion you’re trying to copy, that would be very helpful. In general, you should be able to copy portions of a mind map without duplicating the entire thing. For example, using this template in Lucidchart, I’m able to select just this teal branch (both by clicking and dragging to select or using ctrl/cmd + click).

Then, I can paste just those shapes.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for these screenshots. I was able to reproduce this and you’re correct - it’s not currently possible to copy only a portion of a mind map in Lucidspark, but we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. As part of the Product Feedback section of the community, others can view, upvote it and add details of their own.

Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post:

This is a very handy feature as I work in this type of environment all day. I am doing engineering work and when I have to do this style flow for process and ticketing charts it makes it easy. I was using your competitor's product, and they allow copy and paste. It would save me time as I constantly have to repeat the exact same option in the boxes over and over.  I have one flow in this one that has 12 legs and I had to type out text box 12 times just there and if I could copy it that would be way easier. Plus when I am building and want to copy a full part and do an enhancement i would have to fully recreate it and then update it.

I hope this gets voted up. I like the style of the new revised Mind Map feature in Lucid Chart and Spark. but the inability to copy or duplicate one or several nodes to be used in other parts of the Map is a time suck.

1,000% yes.  The feature that @jeremywilley is describing was a basic feature of competitor software that I used for almost 10yrs as well.  It became a huge timesaver for building our mind maps systematically and quickly, especially in a group setting.  @Micah the addition of this feature would breakdown a major barrier to Lucid Charts conversion for established users of other mind mapping software.

@marcdpatenaude Appreciate that additional context and you taking the time to let us know how this would impact your work!

@Micah I also want to add that this is a huge time saving functionality the easiest example I can give is for mapping out all the fields for address. Many sections can have the same fields and so a single branch can be copied over and over to give detailed information for address 1, address 2, mailing, shipping addresses and etc. This is only 1 small example but reusability of branches is critical saving time.

@johnathan.anaya Thank for for that reusability example - it makes a lot of sense! Appreciate you taking the time to share.

This needs to happen now. The mind mapping tool is basically useless without this.

Hi @kmaerkedahl, thanks for adding to this thread! This functionality is not currently supported, but the product development team is validating this idea. They’re scoping out possibilities and investigating requirements and implications. Keep an eye on this thread for updates!

This really really needs to be fixed. Not only copy pasting within in a map but also between maps for reuse. This is fundamental functionality for any serious mindmap usage. For example I use it to track my teams work - I really really dont want to re-enter the same map parts (ongoing projects, personal, development goals, key dates, education etc) 12 times…

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

I completely agree that the copy feature in a mind map is essential. All other mind map tools, like Miro, support this functionality. This issue needs to be resolved promptly. I would prefer to continue using the Lucidchart mind map feature, but I can't afford to waste any more time recreating a mind map branch because the copy/paste feature isn't implemented.

Thank you for your usual diligence.

Any update on this?

Critical feature for larger mind maps.

Mind map unusable for me without this

Please prioritize this.

Definitely a baseline/expected feature completely missing. The Mind Map template is generally great to use, but the lack of ability to copy/duplicate an item or a group of items to a different area of the mind map, or to different mind map makes it a very frustrating user experience.
