The quick button (lockpad) for the layer lock is not working.

Hi @MSmidowicz

To your point the lock is disabled or not responding ?

Thanks

It’s this lock, the quick button on the left (padlock) doesn’t work. Before this update, you could click on the padlock and it would lock and unlock the layer. Now, you have to click on the 3 vertical dots and then select lock/unlock layer. It may be a bug, because you can still click on the eye icon to hide the layer. However, if the ability to click the padlock to lock/unlock a layer has been taken away, that’s very frustrating

You can also right click on the layer while it’s unlocked to bring up the menu and select lock/unlock layer, but I’m not able to right click the layer to unlock it when it is locked.

Hi @MSmidowicz, thank you for posting in the community and sharing that information. This is likely related to a recent UI update. I am checking internally for some additional insight and will update this thread as soon as I have more details.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions in the meantime!

Hi @Leianne C ,

Thank you very much, I appreciate it! There are a couple more items that we’ve ran into that might need to be looked at as well:

  1. The layers will randomly lock themselves. Usually, this happens when we have multiple layers unlocked. The layer(s) that we are not actively working in will lock on their own. Since we are building blueprints for our clients, having to constantly unlock the layers again increases our total build time.
  2. When naming the layers, we used to be able to just double click on the layer name and rename it. Now, we have to click on the 3 vertical dots, select Rename from the menu, and then type the name there. This also adds to our total build time. We’d like to be able to double click on the layer name like we used to.
  3. We are also having issues with picklist fields in Smartfields. If we are zoomed out too much, the pickfield dropdown menu on the object will not remain in place. We have to zoom in to at least 25% for the menu to stay open.

Thanks again!

Hi @MSmidowicz, thank you for sharing your feedback. I’ve heard back from our development team and they confirmed that this is currently working as designed. This is part of our efforts to align the user interface across Lucidchart and Lucidspark.

However, I understand how this can be frustrating and have shared your feedback with the team for their consideration. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post:

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know!

Hi @Leianne C I appreciate your assistance and prompt responses on these updates. However, it is most frustrating that this was an intended design. Updating the interface should make it easier for the user, not more difficult or tedious. It does not make sense that I can easily click on the eye icon to hide or unhide the layer, but can’t click on the padlock icon to quickly lock or unlock a layer. It also doesn’t make sense that I am able to right click on the layer to bring up the menu tab while it’s unlocked, but not able to right click while the layer is locked to bring up that same menu tab.

What we’d like to see from this experience: fewer clicks and mouse movement. Our small team of 6 people handle upwards of 150 Lucidchart diagrams per day that are shared with our clients. The more efficiency in our process, the better for our turnaround time and quality of service for our clients. This update has added at least 2 extra clicks in our process for each Lucidchart.  My team would love to be able to have easier access to locking and unlocking the layer, preferably by using the padlock icon. Being able to double click on the layer name to rename it should also be brought back.

The Smartfield pick lists have also been updated in a manner that makes it more difficult to use. The picklist won’t stay on the diagram unless you are zoomed in to at 16-25% or the font size in the Smartfield object on the diagram is large. We’ve used size 42 font for most of our diagrams, but now we are having to use size 72 and even then the picklist field is troublesome. You either have to be zoomed in or position the field of view so that there’s ample space between the Smartfield object and the bottom of the diagram area. Sometimes it will take 5 or more clicks to get the Smartfield list to stay on the diagram so that we can select the correct field in the picklist.

Many Thanks,

Leianne C
